Obituary of Jeffrey Eric Mack

After a prolonged period of poor health, Jeffrey “Jeff” Eric Mack passed away in the ICU of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on November 28, 2023, with his family by his side. He was the son of the late John and Thelma (Alexander) Mack.

Jeff was born in Montreal, Quebec, but moved to Fredericton Junction at a very young age, where he was raised by his uncle and aunt, Francis and Norma Alexander. He became part of the family that included Steven, Karen and James Alexander. He attended schools in Fredericton Junction, Oromocto, and soon after began his firefighting career. Serving in Fredericton Junction, CFB Gagetown, Oromocto, and the Fredericton Fire departments, and retired as a fire inspector. During his career he received recognition for his service in many ways, but he was most proud of the advocacy he did for addiction and PTSD with first responders.

Jeff was also a nature lover and spent lots of hours, in healthier times, on his 4-wheeler. He was also an avid curler, and was interested in World War II history and airplanes. He was never known to turn down a McCains’ frozen lasagna.

He will be greatly missed by his children, Brennan and Eric Mack, they were certainly his pride and joy. He will also be missed by Brennan’s mother, Sandy; Eric’s mother, Lorena; siblings, Danae Mack, Karen Duncan (David), Steven Alexander (Bea Sainz), and James Alexander, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Jeff was predeceased by his chosen parents, Francis and Norma Alexander.

Jeff was and his family are very appreciative of all the care he had received by first responders and all of the medical personal, especially the doctors and nurses, in the ICU in his last few days.

A visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Friday, December 1st, 2023, from 6 – 8 pm. A celebration of life will be held at the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Saturday, December 2nd, 2023, at 11 am. For those unable to attend, a live stream of the service can be viewed at https://vimeo.com/event/3920707 . Interment will be held at the Gladstone Cemetery.

For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Project Trauma Support, Badge of Life, PTSD Association of Canada, or Fredericton Firefighter Association.
