Obituary of Alma Evelyn MacMillan

Alma Evelyn (MacCallum) MacMillan, 85, of Fredericton, New Brunswick, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on July 12, 2022. Born June 25, 1937, in Newcastle, New Brunswick, to the late Wilfred and Beatrice (Kitchen) MacCallum, Alma was the youngest of eight children. She was a woman of steady Christian faith and for many years was a member of the ACW (Anglican Church Women). Alma enjoyed her working years with the University of New Brunswick’s alumni office and, also with the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in the medical records department. Alma loved and cherished her family, giving generously of her knitting and baking skills. She always looked forward to her evening Jeopardy episodes. Being the last surviving member of her immediate family, Alma loved reminiscing of times gone by from her childhood hometown, Newcastle, Miramichi. In addition to her parents and siblings, Alma is predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, Gerald MacMillan. Alma is survived by her four children, Leslie MacMillan, Heather Long (Stephen), Wendy MacMillan-Poirier (Brad), Drew MacMillan (Heather), and her nine grandchildren, Derek, David, Sean, Christopher, Susan, Leslie, Aaron, Alex, and Katie, and ten great grandchildren. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of the oncology unit at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital and the Oromocto Public Hospital for their kindness and excellent care. To honor Alma’s memory, the family would appreciate any donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the New Brunswick Lung Association, or a charity of your choice. At Alma’s request, there will be a family graveside service at a later date.
