Obituary of Aulda Yerxa
The daughter of Aulda Yerxa sadly announces her passing at her home on July 28, 2022, at the age of 98.
Aulda was born on September 22, 1923, to Harry and Helen (Powys) Ludford, in Fredericton, New Brunswick. After graduating from high school, she went on to get her teaching certificate before following her passion to nursing school. After graduation, Aulda would have a lengthy and successful career as a nurse, providing exceptional care to those in need for over 50 years. Despite officially retiring at age 70, she continued to volunteer and raise funds for various organizations and help in any way, wherever her services could be utilized.
An avid sportswoman, Aulda was an enthusiastic cross-country, downhill, and water- skier, who also loved snowshoeing and anything to do with the outdoors. She especially enjoyed swimming, and continued to do so until she was 96. Aulda was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Church and ACW, member of the International Order of Oddfellows and Rebekahs, an instructor for St. John Ambulance, and a member of the Canadian Nurses Association.
In addition to her parents, Aulda is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Paul Yerxa; daughter Susan Jewett; brothers Edward Ludford (Ina), and Fred Ludford (Lucy); and her chosen sister Marion Hepworth (Cliff).
Aulda is survived by her loving daughter, Catherine (Ed), her many wonderful nieces and nephews, Richard, David, Terry, and Bryant Ludford, Carl Hepworth, David Hepworth, Bonnie Danielson, Susan Ludford, Debbie Poisson, Kelly Smith, and Anne Daviault, who were a constant presence in her life and were blessed to spend time with her in her final days. She is also survived by her estranged children, Lorrie Yerxa, Joan Freeborne, and Dale Yerxa, as well as grandchildren, Allison, Peter, Matthew, Mark, Alicia, and Serena. She will be dearly missed by her constant furry companions, Sandy and Riggley, who never left her side.
Arrangements have been entrusted to McAdam’s Funeral Home. A service will be held at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Fredericton, New Brunswick, on Friday, August 5th, at 2:00pm, with Fr. Kevin Stockall officiating. The family will be available to receive condolences prior to the service, from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. A reception will follow in the Church Hall. Donations in Aulda’s name are gratefully accepted, and can be made to the New Brunswick Extra Mural Program for the exceptional care they provided.
