My condolences to Fred's family. I worked in the CFNB newsroom with Fred and Art Carpenter from 1963 until 1966 and we became fast friends. After their marriage Fred and Marilyn were frequent visitors at our home after Sandy and I married in 1963. I admired Fred for his thoughtful advice and attention to his work which became more evident when he went on to the CBC and later politics. I recall once when he returned from a trip to Boston and told us that a British group of musicians were greeted like royalty at Logan airport, But he couldn't recall their name. Turned out they were the Beatles arriving in the U.S. for the first overseas tour.
Fred's encouragement and good humour helped me to adjust to covering New Brunswick politics and often helped in my career as a journalist in later years.

Wanda, Chris, Duncan and Families,
We were deeply saddened to learn of Fred's passing. He was one of the original settlers on Cottage Lane and we had the privilege of knowing him as a friend and neighbor from the time we built our cottage there.
The Blair family name is well known at the lake. They have always been very involved in any issues concerning the well-being of Lake George.
Fortunately, Chris and Duncan inherited the love of Lake George from their parents and continue to be very involved in projects that involve keeping the lake healthy.
Fred's presence will be deeply missed by his wife, family, friends and neighbors.
May the pleasant memories you have of your husband, father and grandfather help to comfort you at this difficult time.
Sincerely, Art and Alberta

I have a memory that makes me smile.
I was visiting Fred and Marilyn at their cottage in Harvey when Marilyn and I decided to drive to see Chris, Susan and the children in their new home on the other side of Fredericton. Fred had to stay home to work so I would be driving.
We were discussing the route. Fred said "The quickest way is the new highway .... ", and he gave directions. Marilyn said, " But I can't see and I know the old way." I said , "And with my eyesight I can't read the signs."
Fred tried again. "The quickest way is the new highway... " and he gave directions. Marilyn said, "But Fred, I can't see, and I know the old way." And I said again, "With my eyesight, I can't read the signs." Fred opened his mouth to repeat for a third time, when suddenly the madness of the situation hit him ; it really was the blind leading the blind, DRIVING A CAR.
Fred drove us. We had a lovely visit.
To all of the family, we are very sorry for your loss. May you find some comfort in the memories you have of this beautiful person.
With all our love,
Enid and Roger

Fred was exceedingly patient with me as I learned the ropes after I was hired as at tech at CBZ in 1978. I’d heard him on the radio, of course, and it took him a couple of weeks to convince me to stop calling him ‘Mr Blair’. The consummate professional, it was always a pleasure to work with him.

I remember Fred working in the newsroom at CBC and was told by some staff his youngster Duncan would be there from time to time with him. When I left CBC in 2014, Duncan was my boss and the best one I ever had in my radio and tv career. Fred raised a good man. I'm sorry for your loss. Fred was a pro and will be missed.

I am heartbroken at learning of Fred's passing. From the time we met, I a young (part-time) reporter for CHSJ-TV covering the New Brunswick Legislature (1970), Fred was there as a mentor. He subsequently ushered and welcomed me into a 28 year career with the CBC starting in 1972. We remained friends and he, a mentor and adviser I could always count on ! - Rest In Peace, "Fredsy !"
