Dear John,
We are so very, very sorry to hear about Carolyn and extend our heartfelt sympathy to you and all your family. We have many fond memories of our get togethers, but will never forget your warm welcome to us when we first moved to Fredericton. We were invited to a “ Wassail Bowl” party and Robyn had just been born. Carolyn’s calming and graceful presence touched everyone. What a remarkable, talented lady! I know you will all miss her terribly. We are saddened that we are unable to attend her celebration of life as we are in Germany. Holding you close in our thoughts and prayers as you mourn and grieve. God bless, Donna and Eckart

The Owens Art Gallery at Mt. Allison held a retrospective of the art of the college: "All Things Useful and Artistic: Applied Arts at Mount Allison University 1906-1960", in 2015. Carolyn's art was part of that show, and on a September day I drove my car with Carolyn and Sharon to Sackville to see it. We were amazed at all the beautiful pieces that she had created, and there were many items from her home that I had never known were made by her hand, such as leather tooling, weaving, pottery, wood carving, silver, jewelry, etc. It was very impressive. We were impressed by her work; she, on the other hand, had been impressed that the large container truck that the Gallery had sent to retrieve her items had been able to back into the rather long and narrow laneway to their house. It was a special day, fondly and lovingly remembered. Wilma Gilchrist

Dear Dr. John,
I was so saddened to hear about the passing of your dear Carolyn.
When I worked as your assistant those many years ago I had fond memories of Carolyn dropping by the office with all of the children in tow. She was a great Mom, a lady of understated elegance and a gracious hostess! I remember her kindly organizing a lovely wedding shower for me in 1981- I still remember her delicious grasshopper pie to this day! She was a very special person.

Dear John, Robyn, Gill, Carrie and John,
It is with great sadness that I post this message. Our dear, older sister-cousin has provided me with many fond memories of our summer visits to New Brunswick, my time at UNB sporting her raccoon coat and the visits we had during my 5 year UNB reunions. The Manzer and McMullen families have been so hospitable over the years and I think of them with great fondness.
There are little treasures that Carolyn gave me, that I have to this day among them, special bracelets and placements of Fredericton, with Bartlett prints.
I remember when I was staying at 142 Woodstock Road, as a student, Carolyn tried to prove to me that it took far less water to have a shower than to take a bath; so, she showered with the plug in the drain to make her point! She was thinking of water conservation much before most other people.
I will truly miss my dear cousin Carolyn and I send love and hugs to all of you at this difficult time.
Ann
