To Denis' family:
I was shocked and sadden to hear about the passing of Denis. I worked with Denis from 2003-2006 when he was the Regional Director of Environment and Local Government for the Fredericton Region. He was a great boss and had the respect of all of us in the office, although as Mike alluded, we did tease each other quite a bit as were a small office. We worked hard but always had fun, and when he brought in the infamous dolphin lamp (it must have been originally given to one of his daughters) for our office Christmas gift exchange thinking he would get rid of it, instead it would get continually brought out for other events and would delight us if Denis ended up getting it again. Another funny time was when he got the boat from Natural Resources and thought it would be a good idea to use it in the St. John River, even though we warned him that it couldn't be any good if DNR didn't want it and it would break down each time he used it. He always had the time for all of us and gave us his support. I had great conversations with him about life and finances. The past few years, we would just correspond when it was his birthday and it was great to have that chance to catch up with him. The world is a little less bright without him. My sincere condolences and thoughts are with you on the loss of a great man.

Denis was my Director during his time with Environment. I always called Denis "Devo" because he reminded me of the short musical band players to me. He called me "Spanky" from the gang.
Devo - For all the times we spent together in the field, in the office, and on the road, Thank You. For all the support we gave each other through trying times, Thank You. For all the times we made fun of each other, Thank You. For all the times we got grumpy at each other (once-and it was resolved when we went for coffee 5 minutes later), Thank You. And Thank You for sending the others to McAdam and Gasperaux Forks for work files and not me (he knows what that meant to me),
Thank You <3.
For the family of Denis, I only knew Denis for a fraction of the time you have. I know the loss in my heart is strong and can only imagine your loss and the emptiness you now face. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
Mike

My sincere condolences to the Deveau family including Melanie, Parker, Kate and Victoria, Herve and Geneva, as well as the many people he touched. I worked with Den at NB Environment and Local Government for a number of years, and actually had the pleasure of mentoring him during his short diversion to Stantec before returning to a career of service to the people of NB. He was part of my curling team for a year or two, and we shared many laughs and maybe a few beers :). Being cursed with the same first name as he (and the many mispronunciations of it in Englilsh), I'll always remember him gently responding to someone about the way they were saying his name, as he matter of factly but politely pointed to his elbow and said "da elbow", then pointed to his chest and said "da knee"...people got it. I still use that all the time. My heart is broken at the loss of a true friend and great human, but nothing compared to your great loss. He will live forever in my heart and every time someone mispronounces my name, I will see him pointing as his chest and patiently reinforcing who he was. RIP Denis

Dear Melanie, We've never met but I came to know Denis when we lived in Lincoln Heights for a few years, my husband Rick being an old friend of his. I found Denis to be so personable and really enjoyed our chats. I was the beneficiary of his helping nature on more than one occasion. I'm so sorry for your loss, so young and just at the beginning of his retirement that he had so looked forward to. My thoughts are with you and all who loved him.

Denis will always hold a special place in my heart. I worked as Denis' Administrative Assistant when he was the Director of Technical Inspection Services, Department of Public Safety. We discovered we had many things in common and especially our love for Harvey's hamburgers. It seemed every Monday I would start a new diet and in would come Denis with a Harvey's hamburger loaded for me. I couldn't hurt his feelings or be rude and not eat it. Needless to say, I never lost a pound while we worked together. lol I will miss seeing his Facebook posts about his new projects and how he, Melanie and Parker are having movie nights or swimming in the pool. My heart goes out to Melanie, Parker and his family. He was a great guy with a big heart and will be missed by many. RIP Denis❤
