Obituary of Edith Torrie
Fondly remembered by friends and family, Edith (Didi) Mary Torrie (Dunn) passed quietly at Pine Grove Nursing Home on 05 Nov, 2022, aged 99 years.
Didi was a loving wife and dedicated mother. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nana. She had a gentle personality with a playful wit and always made people around her feel special.
Didi was born on 07 October, 1923, in Bathurst, NB. She received her nursing diploma at the Halifax Infirmary in 1945 and served there to the end of WWll. Later, as a community nurse in Bathurst, she met and married Alexander (Sandy) Torrie and moved to Fredericton where she applied herself to raising their two sons, Alec and Ian. Devoted to her family, she loved piano, sailing, community volunteering, XC skiing, sewing, and painting.
Didi was predeceased by her husband Sandy in 1981, her parents Perley and Laura (Boudreau) Dunn, sisters Patricia, Doris (O’Neill) and Theresa of Bathurst, NB, Marie (Peachey) of St. Albert, AB, and brother John of Halifax, NS. She is survived by sons Alec (Leanne) of Marblehead, Massachusetts, Ian (Michelle) of Ottawa, ON, 2 grandchildren (Renee, Nicole), 1 step grandchild (Stephen) and numerous nieces and nephews.
The memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church on 9 Nov, 2022, at 2pm with a small reception to follow at the adjoining Monsignor Boyd Centre. A private interment will be held at a later date.
