Dear George, Dirk, Dale, Karen, Michele and other members of the Upshall/Martinson clan, we were saddened to learn through Chantele that Rita, her beloved grandmother, had died. Knowing how important Rita was to Chantele and to your family we know what a loss you now face. The lovely obituary you wrote for Rita describes a true matriarch. We were deeply touched on Saturday, during our weekly trip to the market, to see the lids on the coffee urns overturned and the booth sitting in silence. What a fitting tribute to a true entrepreneur and wonderful human being. Please accept our deepest sympathies.

I had many a cup of coffee poured for me over my years in Fredericton at the market every Saturday morning.
I remember Ms. Rita as a lovely pleasant lady…I didn’t know her..but yet I felt I I did. She had a way. God Bless & Godspeed to the coffee lady.

I was very fortunate to spend the last birthday and meet the family. It is a memory I will cherish. Michele's Mom (as I will always remember her) made me feel very much at home and as if I have known her for much longer. The times she came to stay with Michele in Toronto were always a celebration. The evenings I would be with Michele, and she would call her Mom faithfully every evening and we would have to put everything on hold because that was their time. A tribute to a woman that loved her children and maintained family values. She will be greatly missed.

My condolences goes out to Rita's family. She was a wonderful person and I was lucky enough to live at her place from 1989-1992 as one of her foster children. I enjoyed going to market on Saturdays when it was my turn. She had different animals on her farm and she loved dogs. And yes she and her husband George had sleigh rides when I was living there and I got to go on 2 rides I think during my time staying there. I use to get the following month's calendar drawn up for her so she could make reservations when someone called. She had a lunch for those who booked one after the sleigh ride. I got to experience the big Sunday dinners she put on for her family. We had to extend the table on Sundays to fit everyone. She was an amazing cook. And she made the bagels on Fridays and her and her husband would get up early Saturday mornings to spread the cream cheese on them. One Friday she asked me would I like to try to prepare a bagel before it was baked and I said yes. Also when my time was done living there I remembered her birthday and she would always say I do I remember her birthday lol? I would tell her that mine's in the same month but later on in the month. She enjoyed getting into the pool in the summers. But yes I remember alot from my 3 years living at her house. She'll never be forgotten. RIP Rita. You were the best foster mom I had and I'll never forget you.
