Obituary of Johannes Willem Moerman
It is with great sadness that the family of Johannes “John” Willem Moerman announces his passing on November 14, 2022, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands on December 20, 1935, he was the son of the late Geertje Huiberdina (Verhagen) and Adrianus Cornelis Moerman.
John was educated in Holland as a mining engineer, and had an accomplished career in the Canadian mineral industry. His passion was the outdoors, which he shared with his family through endless fishing expeditions, wilderness walks, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, travel and photography. For many years he was involved in the activities of the United Church in Murdochville and Bathurst.
He is survived by his wife Pieternella “Nel” (van den Heuvel); sons Adrianus (Ruth) and Dennis (Karen); daughter, Karen Terry (James); grandchildren Evangeline, Catherine and William; brothers Jan and Gerhard; sister Nel, as well as several extended family members
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his brothers Willem, Cornelis, and Adrianus.
The family would like to thank the staff at Thomas Hall, Parkland Fredericton for the wonderful care they gave John during his stay there. Thanks also to Nancy Scott, and Audrey Chamberlain for their help with caring for him when he was at his home in North Tetagouche.
Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel, 160 York St. Fredericton, on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at 12 pm, with Rev. Kelly Burke officiating.
