Obituary of Marie Wetmore

The family of Verna “Marie” Wetmore, 100, of Fredericton, New Brunswick, sadly
announces she passed away on November 18th, 2022. Marie passed peacefully with her
daughter Heather and granddaughter Amanda by her side.

Marie was born on September 4th, 1922, to Howard and Sarah Ganong in Hampton, New
Brunswick. As a young adult Marie moved to Saint John to pursue a career in the
insurance industry.

In 1956 Marie met John Harry “Jack” Wetmore, and they wed on August 4th, 1957. At
that time, they relocated to Fredericton, where they went on to have two children - Susan
and Heather.

After the birth of her children, Marie took on the role of a stay-at-home mother, turning
her focus to caring for her children & family. Marie found great joy being in the kitchen,
baking treats for every occasion. She never let you leave her home with out a full belly
and a full heart. As her children grew older so did their family’s love of animals,
specifically dogs. Breeding and showing dogs quickly became one of her family’s
favourite hobbies. Marie’s other passions included being an active member of the the
I.O.D.E & New Maryland United Church.

Marie is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Heather McGathey; grandchildren,
Amanda Mcgathey (Charles), Adam Mcgathey (Ellie), and great-grandchildren, Cooper
and Tessa. She is also survived by granddaughters, Christina and Jacqueline. She was
predeceased by her husband, Jack; daughter, Susan Chase, and sisters, Alberta Grainger
and Rosalie Ganong.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at York Care, for their
compassion and efforts during her final years.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, November 23rd, 2022, at the J.A. McAdam Memorial
Chapel in Fredericton, New Brunswick. A reception will follow in the adjoining room.

IWK, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
