I have just recently learned of Heather's passing and I wanted to send my sincere condolences to all of her family and friends. I met Heather in 2015 and I felt her warmth immediately. She was a kind, beautiful soul who treated everyone the way they would want to be treated. I clung to keeping in touch with her over the years via social media because I knew Heather was special. She held all the beautiful, loving, unique qualities that anyone would want in a friend. I have never met a kinder person who was so much herself. Despite living in different provinces, Heather reached out to me a couple of years ago when my own health struggles began. I am so deeply sorry to now know that she was also going through her own health struggles. I am so sorry for what you went through, Heather. You deserved more of your beautiful life. Your family deserved having you around. I will continue to do whatever I can to keep your spirit alive for the remainder of my life. I hope we can all continue to celebrate Heather.

To Charlene and all the family,
I have just learned of Heather’s passing and want to express my condolences to you —Charlene and all of your family.
You will recall when I met Heather. It was for my mother’s funeral. She had passed away at my home here in New Maryland. My mother loved to sing and could do most opera arias ver batum I wanted to get Wendy Neilson to sing at the funeral but she was working in New York at the Met…. Someone said—- you should ask Heather Roxborough!!! Contact was made and alas —- Heather’s Mom is my schoolmate.. —Charlene —whose path I had not crossed since high school…. It was kizmat…..
Heather agreed to sing…. The service was at St Paul’s where my mom and dad were married…. Heather sang an aria from Romeo and Juliet…. The voice of an angel… folks attending shared this special moment in time listening to Heather’s magnificent voice—- never to be forgotten….I was so grateful for Heather’s willing help …
I lost my best friend to the same cancer that took Heather… It is painful to watch..
I share your pain today.
May your wonderful memories of Heather’s life and your times together comfort you now and in the future.
Sincerely,
Doug Johnson

While driving into town on Lincoln Road on an autumn day three years ago, I spied a very large apple tree that was unburdening itself on the lawn and driveway of a home. I am a “hunter” that is I love to be in the woods and pursue animals in a sense. Modern trail cameras have allowed me to make observations and monitor what is going on in my neck of the woods. Apples put the critters in front of the cameras. So I stopped in at this home, knocked at the door and Heather Roxborough answered. I explained the reason for my visit and she was most agreeable to my harvesting the bounteous crop. I remember at the time, sharing an anecdote with her of a visit my wife had had with her dad. the dentist. She replied with one of her own and we laughed. We developed a symbiotic relationship, wherein I got the apples and she got her yard raked. Subsequently, I would send her pictures and videos on a messaging app of some of the visitors to the apple pile in the woods and she appreciated seeing them.
That first fall Heather’s tree was my main apple supply. The next year the tree was barren so although I was not around I did touch base with Heather “The Apple Tree Lady” as she called herself. I apologized for not being around and she apologized for not having any produce. I did send her more of my pictures and a few notes though.
I drove by Heather’s house last spring and her tree was profuse with blossoms portending a good harvest for the fall and it did come across in a big way. In a message Heather had said that she expected and hoped I would be around in the fall when she saw the abundant blossoms. I did not disappoint and was there in season, to gather the crop and take it out to feed the wildlife. I had one bear eating 30 pounds of the things at a setting. However, my benefactor could not come out to visit then as she was gravely ill. I did meet her folks Charlene and Jim who were constantly there with her, tending to her needs as only loving parents could but to no avail. My last glimpse of Heather was last October as she got out of her dad’s car. She was disheveled, drawn, pale and in hospital garb, just having had a chemo treatment. She did smile and make a point of saying it was good to see me and I wished her well. It broke my heart to see her in that vulnerable state.
So many people influence us in this journey we call a life and Heather is one of those acquaintances that has made a lasting impression on me as an example of one of the good ones. In our encounters she was kind and thoughtful, understanding of other people and points of view. This old redneck, woodsy guy, is grateful to have encountered her on his journey.
Jim and Charlene I am so sorry for your loss but be aware that in her short time, Heather made a difference and shall not be forgotten.

I was completely floored to hear the news of Heather’s passing. I attended elementary school with her at St. Dunstan’s. We were not friends then, but in January of 2020, we had a brief opportunity to sing together in a small choir for a CD recording. We recognized each other with enormous smiles on our faces, and even had a picture taken together. My regret is that I didn’t know her better in our adulthood. Gone much too soon. Roxborough Family,
My deepest sympathies. While I haven't talked to Heather in years, I am shocked and saddened to hear about this heartbreaking news. I grew up with Heather, spending time together in Jr. High and High School. I have many fond memories of her, always smiling...
Heather was consistently the smartest person in our class, for every class. And, she was also the kindest. I remember Heather on the tennis court in her beautiful all white outfit. Wow, she had many talents!
She was also a little ahead of her time, if i'm not mistaken, she recited a poem in Jr. High (9th grade) from her fave movie ... which was "What dreams may come"...not being as cool and hip as Heather, i thought it was over my head at the time...but it's all coming back together beautifully now... "What Dreams May Come" is the movie that tells them, yes, it's possible, at least in a solipsistic New Age sense, to attain eternal life. That's because eternity, the movie soothingly suggests, is whatever you imagine it to be. If you can conjure it up, then on some level it must be reality"
So with that, I imagine Heather right now to be in peace, in a beautiful world that makes her the happiest and in eternal life.
I'm sending lots of love and prayers to you all. xo Marie

Dear Charlene and family, I am saddened to hear of Heather’s battle with cancer and her recent passing. I can only imagine the loss you must now feel. Heather was one of our outstanding undergraduate students when I taught in the Psychology Department at UNB. She made had such a positive impact in my classes as evidenced by her enthusiasm, optimism, leadership ability, and intellectual inquisitiveness. She was a keen learner and a student leader, well-liked by students and faculty alike. Returning to Fredericton after her graduate training, she made an important contribution to the mental health of our community through her private practice. As a clinical psychologist Heather’s sensitivity, understanding, and compassion for others was readily apparent as was her commitment to high standards of excellence. Dear Charlene, Jim and Steven, we have such fond memories of times spent with Heather and your family on the various basketball courts she and Anne-Marie played on in their youth. Those were wonderful family times as were the times when Steven and John played together. Heather was one fierce basketball player and we say fierce in a positive way. She played basketball as she played life with focus, passion and integrity. While our paths as families have not crossed in recent years, we are well aware of the great work Heather did with our various service people. Her contribution to the lives of service members afflicted with PTSD was significant. We were fortunate to keep abreast of Heather’s progress as a professional through Diane Brown, her aunt and our next door neighbour. Diane was so proud of her niece. It was through Diane that we learned of Heather’s diagnosis. Anne-Marie, John and David, join us in extending our condolences on the loss of your little angel, Heather.

She made an indelible impression on everyone who was fortunate to stand in her presence. Thank you Heather for all of the compassion you showed to those who needed it most. Irreplaceable, one of a kind, unique, beautiful. The world was a better place with you in it, but you left a beautiful legacy in the work that you did and the people you touched along the way. Thank you for the coffee and the conversation! I count my blessings that I knew you xo

Heather was a year ahead of me in school and I remember her presence vividly from the days at Saint Dunstan’s through to the psychology honours program at UNB. Later on, we had the opportunity to work together as psychologists in Fredericton. What an intelligent, lively spirit. I was lucky to have known you, Heather. Our community has suffered such a loss.

Heather and I were friends in high school and would often be found sitting on the floor in the hallway talking about life and pondering over our futures. She and I connected on such a deep level and our talks were always deep in nature till we would look at each other and laugh over how deep we got for two high school students. Her smile and spirit were always warm and inviting and we always ended with hugs and laughter. You will be deeply missed Heather. My condolences to the Roxborough family.

Heather used to work in the same building as me right down the hall. We had some mutual friends so we would always say hi in passing. As a mom of 3 when I’m done work I’m done and I want to get home there is almost nothing that can persuade me otherwise. One day I was on my way out and Heather was as well she turned to me and was like hey want to walk to graystone and just have a drink? My mind all of the sudden when I was looking at her was like YES I do! So we went thinking it would be a 30 min little hang out well we stayed and just talked for hours. The time flew by we had no idea. This is my favourite memory of Heather and one just in general. I will cherish our time we spent together over the years in my heart forever. I miss you xo

To the Roxborough family - there are no words to describe how sorry I am for your immeasurable loss. I had the absolute privilege of being friends with heather throughout our undergraduate degree and then we both worked as psychologists in NB. She was such a bright light and an amazing friend during those years. One of the smartest, thoughtful, brightest people I have ever known. I valued our time together and have enjoyed running into her at professional events over the years and consulting and referring clients back and forth. Please know what a mark she left on so many people in her much too short time. I will never forget her. I am holding all of you in my heart as you grieve.

My deepest sympathies to Heather’s family and friends. Heather has been and will continue to be held in high esteem. Through school we connected over a love of writing and later, we compared notes on grad school as we each pursued different streams of psychology. A memory I will certainly cherish is the surprise and joy of finding a familiar face on a cruise ship during our senior year of high school. I will always remember Heather as kind, generous, intelligent and talented, and I am very sorry that the world has lost her far too soon.

My heart is broken and forever changed. We lost a beautiful light in this world. She was kind, generous, passionate and loved beyond measure. Her smile and laugh would fill a room with feelings of happiness and hope. She is the one that would laugh the loudest and hug the hardest. Today, I am grateful for having the opportunity to be part of her world, one that left me humbled, strengthened and smiling. Rest in peace dear friend.

Heather was a remarkable woman and human. We only reconnected in the last two years, after having been in the same research group when she was at UNB. Our friendship in the last two years revitalized me as a person and she made me smile. She made me feel seen and loved, and I can only imagine that this was how she made everyone feel. I am deeply grateful to Heather and her friendship. I am so sorry for your loss. It is enormous. She was a beautiful gift as a human. Xoxoxo
