Again, my condolences to Penny's family. I worked with Penny at Regina Public Library, where she was head of Branch Services. Penny was competent and efficient, and very supportive of me and others. I wasn't the easiest person to supervise, but Penny was able to strike a balance between supporting me and letting me do much of what I wanted, while keeping me from stepping on toes and alienating other managers. We all remember Penny's eagle eye--she detested out-of-date posters and handouts. Staff would scour our bulletin boards before she visited the branch, but she always managed to find something we missed. I enjoyed my relationship with Penny, and am sorry that I never made it to Fredericton for a visit.

To Sally and Bill,
I am so sorry to hear about Penny. It was so long ago that we were neighbours on the hill in elementary school. I can still remember going to a birthday party at your house and your mother had baked little prizes in the cake. As a six or seven year old it was the first time I had ever seen that. One lucky kid actually got a dime in her piece; a small fortune when you could buy multiple pieces of candy at the corner store for just one cent. I also remember sliding on our toboggans, starting at the hill at our place, roaring through your back yard and hoping to get stopped before exiting onto King’s College Road. What a time it was back then for the kids on the hill. Penny was such a nice person and the Marshalls were such great neighbours.
I hope you find some measure of comfort among family and friends in your time of sorrow.
Sincerely,
Pat Lynch

Thank you for sharing this sad news with Penny's friends. Heartfelt condolences to you and the rest of her family. I worked for Penny at Regina Public Library and will always remember her as one of my best mentors, someone who cared about the work we did and the people we served, who led with positive example, encouragement, common sense and a sense of humour. I know she also carried that optimism and strength of will into her last few difficult years. May she rest in peace.

Sincerest sympathy on your family loss off Penny Marshall. I met Penny through our Cape Breton University Library and Publishing. Her influence on my art career was responsible for many exciting book illustration opportunities and painting sales. She was always supportive and such fun to know!

I’m so sorry to hear about Penny’s passing. I met her in Africa as I was on the same 6 month trans-African expedition. A few years ago we found each other on Facebook and became friends, catching up on the old days in Africa. RIP Penny.

Thanks for the sad news Caleb. I grew up with Penny (and Tom, Bill and Sally) in Fredericton through to UNB and we were both in Toronto in 1969/70 where she shared an apartment with the two Nancys. My parents knew Mr. and Mrs. Mashall

Dear family,
As part of the care staff from Frederick hall, where Penny lived, I had gotten to know Penny very well. I always enjoyed our many chats, about her life abroad, and everything in between. I enjoyed visiting Penny on days off as well, just to catch up on our chats. Penny asked for my daughter and I, to take part in reading one of her many books, that she'd read and write reviews for. We were delighted to have our thoughts added to her own. I ended up purchasing an official copy of this book, and asked Penny to sign it for us. The picture that I've added, is a drawing that Penny made for me. Penny always enjoyed my colorful scrub tops, and often commented on the pictures. She decided to create all the different patterns and pictures of all my scrub tops combined, to create her art drawing of my tops. I treasure this drawing as a symbol of how Penny looked forward to seeing me every day, and seeing the scrub tops I wore, for a conversation piece for her and I. But most importantly, I treasure the thought that she put into creating this art piece, to give to me as a memory of her. I am going to always miss Penny, as she has a special place in my heart. God bless you. May you rest in peace, my friend.
