Obituary of Doreen Elizabeth Kissick

It is with sadness that the family of Doreen Kissick announces her passing at Hospice House on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, surrounded by her family. Born in Toronto, ON, on October 26, 1927, she was the wife of the late Norman L. Kissick.

 

Doreen leaves behind her daughters, Barbara Kissick of Charlottetown, PE, and Maureen Kissick of Sackville, NB. She also leaves behind her granddaughter, Shuanglian Kissick. In addition to her husband, Norman, Doreen was predeceased by her parents, Sidney and Florence (Hicks) Rogers; daughter, Kathleen Kissick; brothers, Gordon and Jack “John” Rogers; sister, Joan Lloyd. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

 

Doreen worked at UNB as an International Student Advisor until her retirement in 1982. She was generous with her time and was a member of several organizations, many dedicated to helping refugees, especially women. Doreen was a Life Member of the New Brunswick Multicultural Association, the National and International Council of Women as well as a member of the Girl Guides of Canada, IODE and CFUW. Doreen was also very active in her church. She was a 30 year member of the Woolastook Presbytery, campus ministry life member and participated on an interchurch refugee committee.

 

A memorial service will be held at Forest Hill United Church on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 2 pm with Rev. Ian Manson officiating. For those who are unable to attend in person a livestream of the service will be available at the following link: https://vimeo.com/event/3159284 Interment will be in Toronto at a later time. For those who wish, donations in Doreen’s memory may be made to the UNB Norman L. Kissick Memorial Scholarship, United Church of Canada Global Outreach or Hospice Fredericton.
