Obituary of Nora Jean Murray

Following a long struggle with Generational Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) Nora Jean Murray, age 68, passed away at Hospice House in Fredericton on Friday, March 17, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Nora was predeceased by her parents, Walter C. and Ruth M. (McGarry) Murray of Charlottetown, PE, and two nephews, Paul Graham and Michael Corbett.

Nora is survived by her sisters, Elaine Coish (Gar) of Burlington, ON, Gemma Swyston (Richard) of Winnipeg, MB, and Phyllis Corbett (James) of Coles Island, NB; brothers, Robert Murray (Terri) of Thunder Bay, ON, and Philip Murray (Theresa) of Moncton, NB. She is also survived by her nieces, Cindy, Emily, Rachel and Melissa; nephews, Andrew, James and Carter, and their darling children. Nora is also survived by many loving and supporting friends.

Nora always enjoyed nature and the outdoors. She grew up in Campbellton, NB, on the shore of the mighty Restigouche River and spent childhood summers on PEI, where she was born. Nora moved to Fredericton to attend the University of New Brunswick and graduated in 1976. She was adventurous and enjoyed canoeing, skiing, and biking along the Saint John River and walking the great trails in Fredericton, especially in Odell Park.

Nora loved painting colorful landscapes and inspiring city vistas, some she had travelled to, some purely from imagination. She was kind and saw the good in people. Nora loved life. She loved the journey, learning and evolving, and she will be dearly missed.

Debra Quartermain, Nora’s good friend, will host a Celebration of Nora’s Life at Quartermain House on Waterloo Row at a later date.

Donations in Nora’s memory may be made to 12 Neighbours (https://www.12neighbours.com), Hospice Fredericton or a charity of the donor’s choice.
