Obituary of Anne Furlong Stapleton

The family of Anne Furlong (Hyslop) Stapleton, 80, of Fredericton, New Brunswick, sadly announces she passed away on April 3rd, 2023.

Anne was born on April 2nd, 1943, to John and Joan (Furlong) Hyslop in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Growing up she attended Mercy Convent College. She went on the St. Francis Xavier and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. After graduation she returned to St. John’s and taught 7th grade at Mundy Pond school. And then she married and moved to Fredericton, New Brunswick.

In New Brunswick, Anne raised her family, and sewed excellent wedding dresses, figure skating, theatre, and Halloween costumes.  She threw herself into home renovations, furniture restoration, and any other craft that people needed.  She also performed a one-of-a-kind custom auto paint job.  In addition, she continued her studies receiving a Bachelors and Master’s degree in Sociology. She then taught Sociology at both the University of New Brunswick and St. Thomas University.

Anne is lovingly remembered by sons Peter Stapleton (Ethel Nakano) and Bruce Stapleton (Kathy) and daughter Heather Stapleton (Brian White) and grandchildren Andrew Stapleton, Michael Stapleton and Henry White. Also left to mourn are siblings David Hyslop (Diane Twemlow), Dick Hyslop (Cecilia), Mary Hyslop, and Robert Hyslop (Holly Morris). She was predeceased by parents John and Joan Hyslop and brother John Hyslop.

Arrangements have been entrusted to McAdam’s Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 8th, 2023, at 4pm, at the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel in Fredericton, New Brunswick, with a reception to follow in the adjacent room.
