Donna and family, as well as all Sam's family.
Sam was such a champion in so many ways. I recall how Dan and I would sit and regale in the stories he told us. When I grew up John Wayne was one of my heroes; Sam was John Wayne umpteen times over. He had an incredible welcoming way about him.
There's a theory about how, when we pass we become part of the Universe's energy flow. That flow just got a big boost! All our best to the Kenny and Dawkins families on your great loss.

Donna, our sincere condolences to you and your family on Sam's passing. He was a neighbour and/or friend to three generations of the Steeves family. From the search for a stolen BBQ on Charlotte Street, to a round of golf at the 'course' on Indian Point followed by a few beer and a barbecued steak, to spending quiet time sharing a bottle of wine; we have many fond memories of our times with you and Sam. It is comforting to know that Sam is at rest and pain free; and as we would expect, he departed on his own terms. Well done good friend. Ron and Sandra

I really got to know Sam when we were on the J Division Tactical Troop together. He was always upbeat and ready to take on any challenge from the younger members in respect to running or wrestling. Sam always won. On behalf of my wife Lorna and I, I wish to express our sincerest condolences to Sam's family. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

We met this charismatic ,humorous character about 3 years ago when we all moved into Station House.
Many wonderful memories were made with Sam and Donna over a glass of wine on their glider down in the garden.
Despite his relentless pain, this stoic guy always had a smile and a twinkle in his eye when storytelling of breaking into song.
Our condolences to Donna and family!you will be missed but not forgotten.

Sam was my Ops NCO in Oromocto just prior to receiving his commission. I can only echo the kind words already expressed by the many who had the good fortune to have crossed pathes with such a fine gentleman. Sam was a true leader amongst his peers and always strived to see the good in anyone that put in an honest effort to champion the very values he held so dear. Honesty, Integrity, Professionalism, Compassion, Accountability and Respect. He lived by these values and expected no less from those who worked with and for him. He always called it like was and treated everyone fairly no matter who you were. I was a brand new Corporal at Minto Post (NB) in Jan 2003 and it didn't take me very long before I started hearing about all his accolades and how well respected he was by the community he served. He had a profound impact on me and anyone who was fortunate enough to have served with him. My sincerest condolences to all his family and friends. You will truly be missed Sam!

Although not mentioned in his obituary, Sam also worked in Moncton. And this is where I remember him from. I'll always remember ,my 40th birthday, where he had hired someone dressed in an Alf costume to surprise me at the office. And boy was I ever surprised! Sam had a great work ethic, and was well liked by everyone. My most sincere condolences to all his family. R.I.P. my friend.

The Kenny's were our next door neighbours in Hantsport with a total of ten children between the two houses ! Sam, being the oldest, was the one who our older children looked up to.. From reading Sam's obituary I see "Being looked up to" remained a big part of Sam's life-a wonderful tribute to "the boy next door! "
Well done good and faithful servant ! Our love and sympathy to Sam's family and Anna And Rich from the next door Neighbors the Wilcox's

Sam was my supervisor in Oromocto a few years back. I was a constable back then and a bit disillusioned with the force. Sam came in as my supervisor and his influence revived my spirit and motivation at the time. He was a positive person, fearless, a role model and the best back-up a member could ever have. He revived in me the meaning of public service and the ethic of working hard without thinking about the end result. Good quality police work for Sam was the end in itself, not a vehicle for success or ambition. He represented the best quality a member of the RCMP should have and the Force built its reputation on guys and girls like him. I am sorry I learned about his passing on too late. My condolences to his family. I want them to know that a pieces of Sam’s spirit is still out there because I tried, and I believe I was successful, in passing the same message and philosophy to other members when I became a supervisor.. I grew up with Sam in Hantsport NS until we went to university in different locations. We had a lot of laughs and fun through those years, were very close. Our parents were friends and we often vacationed, camping, in PEI and Cape Breton with other local friends and families. Great times!
I had the good luck to talk to my friend on the phone several weeks ago. He was the same as ever. A great guy!
To all members of your family I send my sympathy. Love and take care of one another

My condolences to Sam's family. I went through Depot in Troop 27 80/81 (photo) with Sam who was aptly and affectionately referred to as the "old man" of the troop. Most of us being 21ish, often sought guidance and counsel from Sam as a 31 year old with more life experience and maturity than all of us combined. His booming voice, sense of humour, exceptional comradery and kindness are my memories of Sam. Yes, his booming voice. At Depot if a Drill Instructor or the Sergeant Major would appear randomly, it was appropriate for the first person that saw them to yell the word "TROOP", at which time everyone would come to attention, no matter what you were doing. Sam used to do it on occasion just for giggles in our dorm room, watching his troopmates panic for no reason and get the biggest kick out of it. Great guy, fond memories.
Rest well brother.

My deepest condolences to Sam's family & friends. I worked with Sam in Minto, NB. He was a police officer's police officer. He was very well respected by his colleagues and the community he served. And he was a great role model. He always had a friendly smile on his face and put the well-being of others ahead of his own.
Before I even moved to Minto, Sam earned my respect. The inspector in charge at the time was pushing for me to move earlier than when I wanted to move. There was a vacancy in Minto. Being a small detachment, even a single vacancy is hard on the others working there and the inspector was looking for the well-being of the office. I called Sam to discuss this with him and explain why I was looking to move a few months later. Sam called the inspector and told him he'd rather run with a vacancy for a bit longer and have a happy Mountie show up than pressure me to come sooner. Sam had the inspector's respect and trust as the inspector agreed to my timeline after that call from Sam. Sam hadn't even met me yet. But he was already demonstrating himself to be the kind of person I wanted to work for. This first encounter with Sam was an accurate reflection of the type of person he was.
I am glad I got to know Sam both professionally and personally during my time in Minto. It was only 2 years, but it left a lasting impression. Proof that I still remember this first encounter with Sam 23 years later.
I'm sorry to hear that he suffered so much, but pleased that he was able to go on his terms and free himself from his pain.
RIP Sam.

My deepest sympathies to you Donna and all of your extended family. Sam was not only a colleague of mine but my friend. I met him in Dépôt initially but much later had the pleasure to work with him in Oromocto. He lead a team there and I can tell you that he was highly appreciated by all. He had such a big heart for such an intimidating figure. During our last discussion he expressed to me how grateful he was of the life and career he had and just how much his family mattered to him. We will all miss him with his big deep laugh and grin. But we can all take solace that to the end he was true to himself. I am proud and honored to have known him may his soul rest in peace.
