Obituary of Gregory Charles McAdam

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gregory Charles McAdam, 64, on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. 

Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, on March 8, 1959, Greg was the beloved husband, business partner, and soul mate to Brenda (Hare) McAdam.

Greg, along with his wife, are the founders and operators of a locally owned, eclectic family business for almost 40 years known as Scoop & Save Ltd. He was an honest, hardworking businessman whose life was the store. As he jokingly referred to the store in a CBC interview, “it was a hobby gone bad". His work ethic was "give it all you got and then some". He had a soft spot for kids and animals. A very patient and quiet guy who was always thinking. As the saying goes, still waters run deep. He would build a deck, fix a pool, and decorate a cake all in the same day. He was a jack of all trades; we used to joke that he was the next MacGyver. Greg never complained (even when he had every right to).  He would take 3 women out shopping on a Saturday night and still take them out to dinner afterwards.

 At a very young age he stepped up to become the provider for Brenda's siblings when their mom had passed on. He did this with no hesitation, as he always put family first and foremost. He had a heart of gold and was a truly genuine individual. He would never see anyone go without. Generously giving to those who he knew needed it. He impacted many lives in so many ways. He believed if you work hard and do right, life will treat you well and you are bound to succeed.

When Greg wasn't working you could find him either on the golf course, tinkering around the house, cleaning the pool for the kids to come over to go swimming, cooking in the kitchen or MasterChef on the BBQ. He loved music and enjoyed the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival.  His love for his nieces and nephews was unconditional.

 In addition to his wife of 44 years, Brenda, Greg leaves behind his siblings, Paula Ackerley (Brian) of Fredericton, NB, Holly McAdam (Mike Dupuis) of Kincardine, ON, Perry McAdam (Sheila) of Harvey, NB, Paul McAdam (Debbie) of Charters Settlement, NB, and Cindy McAdam of Montreal, QC; sisters-in-law, Patricia Hare (Dino Bernard) of Waasis, NB, and Margie Hare (Larry Forbes) of Nasonworth, NB; brothers-in-law, David Hare of Fredericton, NB, Dale Hare of Fredericton, NB and Robert Hare (Anne Goodine) of Lincoln, NB as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Greg was predeceased by his parents, Paul McAdam and Glenna Rasley, and his sister, Wanda McAdam.

In keeping with Greg's wishes, a memorial gathering will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Sunday, April 23, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm, everyone is welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations to local SPCA or to Canadian Cancer Society (Esophageal Cancer Research) in Greg’s name would be appreciated by the family.
