Obituary of Susan Yin Chin

It is with great sadness that the family of Susan Yin Chin announces her passing at Hospice Fredericton on April 28, 2023, at the age of 62. Born in Fredericton, NB, on July 9, 1960, she was the wife of Thomas Fulton of Fredericton.

In addition to her husband, Thomas, Susan leaves behind her son, Roger Fulton of Fredericton, NB; mother, Sik Ying Chin of Ottawa, ON; brothers, Terry Chin (Tuo Ji) and John Chin, both of Ottawa, ON; nephew, Hunter Chin of Ottawa; sister-in-law, Shirley Ann Bowles (late John Bowles) of Fredericton. Susan was predeceased by her father, Joe Kuo Chu Chin.

Susan grew up in Fredericton and Moncton. Her family later moved to Yuma, Arizona where she attended Yuma High School. While there, she was active in the school newspaper and other clubs, graduating in 1978. Her family then returned to Moncton where she attended Mount Allison University before transferring to The University of New Brunswick. She graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Computer Science. She was employed with NB Power’s Information Technology department for forty-one years; her last position being Lead IT Specialist.

Susan’s favourite hobby was vegetable/flower gardening and taking care of her many indoor plants. At various times, she also enjoyed sewing, knitting and RV-ing. She was a past volunteer and member of The Chinese Cultural Association of New Brunswick and a past volunteer and treasurer of The Fredericton Speedskating Club. She enjoyed summers at the family cottage on Maquapit Lake.

Susan was a kind person, a loving wife, a nurturing mother, a dutiful daughter and sister, a loyal friend and a dedicated employee.

A memorial gathering will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. A family interment will be held in Forest Hill Cemetery at a later time. For those who wish, donations in Susan’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Hospice Fredericton.
