I knew Anne for many years, and consider her (and Denis) good friends. I was planning to stop in Fredericton overnight on my way back to Newfoundland on Aug. 25, and was hoping to see her. I shall miss her, and her sometimes acerbic sense of humour. I recall one occasion in particular, when I made an "oration" in Old English in her honour, and she took me aside and gently pointed out the numerous errors I had made, thanking me at the same time. The last time I spoke with her was 2019 (Covid took care of the next three years), when she left her edition of the four volume Sutton Hoo ship burial for me at the hotel I was planning to stay at in August.
My sincere condolences to the family.

In the early '90s, Professor Klinck taught me so much about the history of the English language. What sounded as a potentially dry subject matter turned out to be one of the most engaging experiences of my undergraduate degree. Anne made learning engaging, fun, and relevant. She was easily one of my favourite instructors. My heart goes out to Professor Klinck's family at this time. <3

As science and engineering students, my wife-to-be and I studied History of the English Language and Old English with Anne Klinck. She embraced us as outsiders and enthusiasts who shared her joy in the material. We will never forget dramatic readings of Anglo-Saxon poetry, dressing up for oral exams, and sharing mead at her home. We’ve run into her a few times since, and it has always brightened our day. The world was better with her in it, and the loss we feel is surely shared by generations of students who have adopted her love of language and verse.

My sincere condolences to Dennis, Mary, Jen and their families for the loss of Anne.
Anne was lovingly awkward, funny, caring, a joy to talk to and loved her animals. She will be remembered fondly and missed with a gentle smile when she is thought of. Anyone who knew Anne will always hold a place in their heart for her. A Great loss!
Take comfort in knowing you will always have all the great memories shared together.

My condolences to Dennis, Mary, and Jennifer. I have many fond memories of Anne.
Anne and I became friends around eleven years of age at a Girls' Grammar School in North Wales, where she was the brainiest pupil in the school. The prefects, possibly out of jealousy, would often catch her doing things the rest of us could get away with. However, she didn’t mind one of the punishments, memorizing poetry!
Our teachers were also in awe of Anne. I remember the Geography teacher announcing test scores and saying that Hibbert had missed ¼ of a point, but she didn't have the heart to make a deduction and gave her 100%!
Our lives took different directions; Anne to Canada and me to the United States. We stayed in touch via letter, although we met several times during simultaneous visits to the U.K., including one school reunion. On one trip, I met Dennis, but sadly never the girls. I always enjoyed her well-written and funny letters; she had a way of describing activities that made you feel right there—one of my favorite letters during her time in university told of a hilarious punting expedition.
Anne visited us once in Texas, and we spent a day floating in inner tubes down a nearby river. We laughed the whole time!
Rest in peace, my friend.

I am saddened to learn of the death of Professor Klinck, whom I met when she was hired at UNB the year I was finishing my MA in Anglo Saxon. She was an exceptional mentor: quietly brilliant, supportive, and challenging. As the years went by, I enjoyed her friendship and her forthright, incisive conversation. No small talk, she asked substantive questions and expected honest answers. And she loved to laugh. I am fortunate and grateful to have known her. My thoughts are with the family (and dogs) she so cherished.

We miss - and will continue to miss - Anne deeply! As Island View neighbours we will miss seeing her out walking Sally (and/with Dennis), whether in the field or on the road. We’ll also miss seeing her tend to her flowers and garden! Deepest condolences to the Klincks and Anne’s friends. Carey, Samira and James
