Obituary of Carol Ann Crowther

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the tragic death of Carol Ann Crowther, who passed away on July 28, 2023, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital (DECH), Fredericton, NB. 

She was predeceased by her parents Jack and Margareta Kierstead, her parents-in-law Ted and Lillian Crowther, and 2 brothers-in-law, Lionel Crowther and Doug Smith.

She is survived by her husband Dan Crowther, her son Jody Crowther (Colleen), her daughter Kerstin Coy (Mark), her grandchildren Grady and Morgan Coy,  Riley and Will Crowther, her sister Jacki Smith, her brother Jim Kierstead (Becky), as well as many of “Auntie CACs” nieces and nephews.

She was a graduate of NB Teachers College and UNB and taught for 30 years in the Fredericton area (St. Dunstan’s, Albert Street Junior High School and finally FHS). She retired from teaching in 2000.

In the early years of her retirement, she enjoyed sailing with her husband on the Saint John River, travelling to the Gulf Coast of Florida, Myrtle Beach and Bermuda. After sailing got to be too much work, she took up golf and enjoyed playing rounds with Dan and her sister “Jak”. But what brought “Mimi” the most joy and satisfaction was watching her grandkids compete in their various sports. She was their #1 fan, thanking them often for the “entertainment”!

Her daily walking and attending Group Power at the YMCA kept her energy level high and buoyed the spirits of everyone she met.

Mum showed a strong will, compassion for others and always kept her sense of humour, even in her toughest struggles. One of her best qualities was finding the joy in even the smallest of things.

Carol Ann was an amazing, welcoming spirit whose door was always open for family and friends. She will live on in our hearts and memories forever.

And throughout this brilliant life, her husband and best friend of 54 years, Dan, was by her side every beautiful step of the way.

The family is hosting an open-house for friends and family to drop in and express their condolences at St. James’ Gate restaurant, 200 Summerhill Row, Fredericton on Thursday, August 3 from 3pm - 6pm.
