Obituary of Dale Earle MacMullin

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Dale Earle MacMullin on November 11, 2020 at Hospice House in Fredericton with the love of his life, Susan, at his side. Born on February 06, 1959, he was the son of Lloyd and Marjorie (Watters) MacMullin and the beloved husband to Susan Kennedy-MacMullin. Dale graduated from Mount Allison University with a degree in Fine Art (BFA) in 1986. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Education at UNB (BED) to teach art at the Highschool level in 1991 as well as a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 1993 from St. Thomas University. His appetite for learning was expressed again when he completed the NBCC Certificate in Digital Communication-Graphic Design & Multimedia Authoring in 1997. But at the very core of his soul, Dale was an artist – whether it was researching ancient pictographic languages to use in his paintings or designing a future aviation piece in 3D on his computer. Around 2010 Dale’s creative process returned him to his childhood love of airplanes. He joined the Canadian Aerospace Artists Association (CAAA) where he found a "home" with a group of people he fondly referred to as "his airplane cronies". He went on to serve as President of this association for 4 years as well as accomplishing the initiative to make CAAA the first virtual chapter of the Canadian Aviation Historical Society (CAHS) in early 2020. Dale’s research and depiction of Canadian World War I and II Aces was as meticulous as the egg tempera medium he chose to use. His work will be donated to various military and aviation museums predominately in the Maritimes. It is fitting, given his focus on Warplanes, that he died on November 11. Dale is survived by his wife, Susan, his daughter Kelly Kennedy (Brent Heagy), his grandchildren Grace, Michael and Ryan Bellows (Darell Bellows and Angel Roy), his nieces Karen, Suzan and Christina and their families, his brother-in-law Joe Kennedy (Carol), sister-in-law Carolyn Pellerin (Don) and their families as well as his brother Garnett MacMullin and family. In addition to his parents, Dale was predeceased by his sister Diane Stone and daughter Jillian Bellows. At Dale’s request there will be no visitation or services. A private family interment will take place later. For those who wish, memorial donations in Dale’s honour may be made to Fredericton Hospice House or the Canadian Cancer Society.
