Obituary of Donna Wilmot Cameron

Donna Wilmot (Crompton) Cameron died on October 30, 2023 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Donna was born on March 6, 1928 at St. Stephen, NB. She was the only child of the late William and Addie (Wilmot) Crompton and loving wife to the late Kenneth Cameron.

Following her graduation from St. Stephen High School, she entered the Conservatory at Mount Allison University to begin her musical studies. She pursued further studies at Acadia University Conservatory, New England Conservatory and the University of New Brunswick. During the course of her career, Donna taught music in the schools of St. Stephen, Saint John and Fredericton, NB.

She was active in church music at Christ Church Anglican in St. Stephen, St. Luke's in Saint John and St. Peter's in Fredericton. Her interest in music and drama also lead to choral work and participation in various music and drama festivals.

For many years, Donna was active in the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, an organization for the promotion of the interests of women in education. She was a member of the original Saint John Chapter of this organization, she was co-founder of the Fredericton chapter and she served as the president of both the Fredericton Chapter and the Provincial organization. For many years, she edited the organization's Provincial News Letter.

While her health permitted, Donna was a loyal member of the IODE. In her earlier years, Donna was an active member of the St. Croix Golf Club and the Saint John Thistle Curling Club.

Following her retirement, Donna and her husband Ken continued to maintain a residence in Fredericton while spending the summer period at their much loved Oak Bay vacation home and travelling extensively during the months of winter.

Donna is survived by her daughter, Ellen Cameron of Auckland, NZ and her grandson, Sean Cameron Widdowson of Queenstown, NZ and Hong Kong.

A memorial service will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home in Fredericton, NB, on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at 1:00 pm. Interment will take place in the St. Stephen Rural Cemetery at a later date.
