Sorry to hear of Mavis's passing. Condolences to the family.
We were room mates during the time I worked in Fredericton, and enjoyed her company.

Cathy,
I just opened your Christmas card this evening, and was very sad to hear the news of Mavis’s passing.
I met your mom (and dad), while on a vacation down east with my dad. When visiting with your parents, I mentioned that I loved blueberries. Well, upon our next visit a week or so later, your mother had made blueberry jam and blueberry pie ❤️ so thoughtful. There is something very special about the hospitality of the folks from down east. As you know, your mother and I continued to exchange Christmas cards every December after that (probably about 30 years now). I loved receiving news of her gardening, baking and knitting. I will miss those notes within her card. I am thankful that I had the opportunity to meet your mom. May she rest peacefully.
Cathy, you were and will always be the apple of her eye. My heart goes out to you.

Mavis was a an amazing woman. I will miss listening to her adventures in the woods and on the river. Not to mention the stories from the Mersereau farm. From her being picked up at the junction train station in winter by horse and sled to the cooking and baking on wood stove both in the summer and winter kitchens. Sharp as a tac she was. Years ago she gifted me a 1950s cedar canvas Chestnut Indian Maiden canoe. When I paddle it, I think of her and how grateful I was to have known her. My deepest sympathies to Cathy and Yvonne.

It was always a pleasure to sit down and chat with Mavis. Conversation came easy and she made you feel at home. She had good stories and enjoyed reminiscing about family and neighbours and the good old days living in the countryside. At the same time she was current and sharp minded. Her memory for dates and times was remarkable. She will truly be missed. My most sincere condolences to Catherine and Yvonne.

Mavis and Marshall were neighbors of mine when I lived in Central Blissville. I remember her calling me on the coldest night in the winter asking if I wanted to come over for a piece of apple pie and whipped cream. And I did....her pies were the best. I moved away but always kept in touch calling her once a week. I will miss my weekly conversations. Rest in peace my dear Mavis.

My mother, Annie Moore Lindsay, spent many happy hours chatting with Mavis on the telephone. They loved to share memories of days gone by. It is sad to lose another Rusagonis elder with such amazing recollections of family and community. Sincere condolences to Cathy and Yvonne. Barb Cogswell
