Obituary of Carolyn Lea Johnson
Following a brief illness, we are saddened to announce the passing of Carolyn Lea (Pond) Johnson on December 6, 2023.
Carolyn was born in Saint John on October 31, 1942, and later moved to Hampton, where she spent her teenage and young adult years. She attended Teacher’s College in Fredericton, and finished her degree at Gordon College in Massachusetts. After graduating, she spent her life teaching and sharing the Word as a missionary in New Guinea and twice to Albania. While married she lived in Scotch Village, NS, Blacks Harbour, NB, and Rusagonis, NB, later settling in Fredericton, where she was active at Brunswick Street Baptist Church. In later years, she enjoyed teaching English as a second language with the Multicultural Association and other groups in the area. She was a woman of faith and enjoyed many aspects of church life including being a pianist and volunteering in any way she could. When she wasn’t working with her church, she enjoyed travelling, music and spending time with her family.
In addition to her children, Melanie (Paul) and Trevor (Tina), Carolyn is survived by their father Bob; grandchildren, Samantha (Eric), Bradley (Adrianna), Jason (Mallory), Mollie, and Maggie; great-grandchildren Ben, William, Grace and Henry. She was predeceased by her parents, Bert & Marie (Grasse) Pond, as well as 2 infant siblings, Virginia & Richard.
A very special thanks to the nurses and staff at DECH 4SE and Oromocto Public Hospital Med1 for their wonderful care and compassion for our mother.
