Obituary of Harriet A. Rutledge

Harriet A. Rutledge of Fredericton, NB, passed away on her chosen date of January 23, 2024. Born in Aroostook, NB on March 10, 1942 she was the daughter of Glenna (Harris) and H. Victor Gaines.

Harriet received her education at Aroostook High, Acadia University, and NB Technical School. She taught for 15 years at FHS (Business Education), before staying home to raise her family.

Crafts were something that Harriet had a knack for and was very talented at. She enjoyed knitting toques for premature babies, calligraphy and miniatures. Also, she was an avid skier.

Harriet is survived by her sons, Andrew (Heather) and Matthew (Nathalie); grandchildren, Lucas, Jack and Emma; brother, Leonard Gaines, as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends.

In addition to her parents, Harriet was predeceased by her husband, Glen, and sister-in-law, Gerene Gaines.

There will be no funeral by request. A visitation will take place at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 2 – 6 pm. Cremation has taken place, and interment will be held at a later date in the Forest Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
