Our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Jerry who went on the trip of a lifetime to his heavenly home where he meets his Lord and Savior in person. Jerry became a close friend of mine when I served many years at Brunswick Church. A friend like Jerry is difficult to replace. I look forward to seeing him again. God bless each of you with comfort, encouragement and spiritual guidance as you continue along your life journey in Jerry's absence.

I'm so sorry to hear of Jerry's death, Marjorie. I know it wasn't unexpected but I know how difficult it is nonetheless. I really enjoyed knowing Jerry since we became neighbors - he had a fascinating life. I'm happy for you that you have lots of family nearby who are supportive - that means so much. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. I look forward to seeing you in the spring. Unfortunately I won't be there in time for his Memorial. Parker Gray

Condolences to the family and friends of Jerry. He was a friend to my Dad (Dick Norrad) and kindly provided accompaniment on piano for the cherished songs that were recorded for us before his passing almost 10 years ago. Jerry was such a nice man - he will be missed greatly.

Marge, Julie, Chris, Tim and Mark,
So sorry to hear about the passing of your dear husband and Dad. Jerry was an amazing person who was so kind to everyone he encountered. I remember fondly my days in the handbell choir and all the wonderful times at Grand Lake. Jerry loved to laugh and had a keen wit about him. He and Mom always roared with laughter as Marge and Dad were the conservative ones, not wanting to draw attention. We have on our wall a painting of the girls, at your cottage by the canoe, that Jerry did at the lake. We enjoyed staying in your comfortable home that you generously shared with our family when we visited a few years ago. Jerry was truly one of a kind and will be missed by all who knew him. He had a life well lived.

My deepest sympathy to Marjorie and all the family in the loss of Jerry. I was a student at FHS when Jerry was a young teacher there. A few years later, he was my co-operating teacher when I was a student teacher from Teachers' College. Over the years we met every now and then and always had a really nice chat; he always seemed enthusiastic about seeing former students. He was a wonderful role model as an educator and as a human being. About four years ago Jerry participated in a writing group organized by Anne Mitton. One of the other members was also a pianist and was invited to Jerry's for an afternoon of music. I had to provide the transportation, and I got a chance to hear Jerry play that baby grand piano! It is my last memory of him and a lovely way to think of him now.
Sincerely, Sandra MacBean, Stanley

Jerry McFarland was a kind and decent person.
He was a devoted educator, not just in his profession or his employment but also in his volunteer activities.
For example, the number of years that he spent as Director of the Harriet Clark Memorial Handbell Choir at Brunswick Street Baptist Church on a volunteer basis was commendable. He was able to teach young teenagers how to play the handbells – even if they did not have a strong background or aptitude in music. That is one of many examples of his commitment as a person who wanted to teach others – and his patience in doing so.
I express my condolences to his family. They should take comfort in the fact that Jerry truly made a difference – for the positive - in the lives of many, many people.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Marjorie and the McFarland family at this time. Jerry's hands rippling those piano keys in hymns he played by heart, and with his whole heart, at church services will be missed so much. I will always have the memory of the years that he directed the (all teenage boys at that time) Harriet Clark Handbell Choir and when I took over directing the Intermediate Girls' Choir, we would have both choirs present a May concert each year with scripture readings relating to the songs chosen, combining both the boys and girls in music and verse. Jerry was a gentle quiet-spoken man who will be remembered in our hearts. May his family continue to feel God's love, comfort and peace during the days ahead.

Our condolences to Marjorie and family. We were very sorry to read of Jerry’s passing. Jerry as a teenager came to visit his grandmother every summer in Petitcodiac. His grandmother lived across from my grandparents where I lived with my mother because my dad was at war. He and I became school counsellors. Valerie first met Jerry when she was a teacher at Smythe St school. We both remember him fondly. He will be missed by many. Sincerely Michael Drury

My sincere and deepest sympathy to the McFarland family on the passing of Jerry. I first knew Jerry when he and his family (parents and siblings) lived on Saunders Street and we lived next door. As the years passed I was fortunate to have Jerry teach me French in grade ten. I remember specifically him teaching us the difference between a cheveux in your soup as opposed to a cheval in your soup. And over the years I had the great privilege of meeting him at various events. He was my favourite teacher and as an adult I held him with high respect.

Mr.McFarland was a Guidance Councillor for my grade 11 & 12. What I remember most about him was his ability to connect all my siblings with me. I’ve mentioned that to different people who agreed with me. He knew who belonged together. My condolences on your loss❤️. Cherish your memories and he’ll live on. Sally

Jerry was my very favourite teacher. He taught my Academic Home Ec class in high school, French. One of our classes was the last class on Friday's. He often made fudge and brought it to class. He also often talked about the Master's degree he was working on in Sociology. I was so interested in what he told us that I actually decided I wanted to go to university and study sociology which I did. Jerry exemplified the positive influence a teacher can have on students. He was always kind, supportive and had a great sense of humour.

Jerry was my father's (Earl) first cousin and I had heard stories about him from my father, but we didn't meet each other until many years later. I wish Jerry and I had been introduced to each other years before, but even so, I felt like we had known each other for years when we finally did meet. A kind and gentle soul who genuinely cared for others, Jerry was thoughtful with his actions. I thank you Jerry, for taking the time to teach me about our family's genealogy and the lovely hand painted Christmas cards you sent to my family every year. Rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to the entire McFarland family. It is hard to believe that I won't be hearing the greeting "Rogerio" from that smiling face that I have known since my earliest memories. Jerry was a significant part of my summers during my childhood and into adult life as I would spend many hours at their cottage with my great friend Mark. Jerry and Marjorie exemplified the gift of hospitality as they made me, and many many others, feel welcome and special. From canoe rides, to handbell choir trips, to art lessons for my daughters, and engaging conversations, I have many fond memories of Jerry. Our family will miss him greatly.
