My deepest sympathy to Michael, Darren and Kim , grandchildren and Siblings. Doreen had a big impact of my life as a child she was my CYC teacher and Sunday School teacher at Barkers Point Wesleyan Church. She and Bill were very instrumental in my early Chrisitian life. I fondly remember her opening up her house for a mother and daughter dinner, my Mom’s first introduction to Wesleyan church, where she later got saved and became a member. I am so grateful that our paths crossed so many years ago.

To our dear "down East" cousins,
We were immensely saddened to hear of Dorene's sudden death. Although we know that she's in a far better place and we'll see her again someday soon, we're left with a big Deanie-size hole in our hearts. She was Deanie and I was Teenie. We're blessed by the many wonderful memories of times spent together over the years. You'll be in our prayers as you adjust to life without this beautiful, loving and talented lady, whom we all loved dearly.
Love & Blessings, Al & Christine

To those who enjoyed life with Dorene:
I remember being a teenager at Corbett Ave Wesleyan and getting to know Dorene as my Sunday School teacher. I knew she loved us. We were invited to her house for tea and that was a pretty big deal!
She was pregnant for Kim when I chose to be an alto (because who could go off key beside her strong and sure singing voice). She sat on a stool in our Easter performance and I stood beside her. Her little boys were precious and she was glowing with the hope of a new baby on the way.
When we had no where to stay at Beulah one year Dorene invited Colleen and I to pitch our tent on their trailer lot in the new back area being developed then.
Dorene had a dignified presence, weighed her words, and often went above and beyond for us. You know the question one often hears about who had an impact on your life as a youth that you’d now like to say thank you to? I simply imagine ALL the good folk at Corbett who loved me so beautifully and also gladly stood to testify to their devotion to our Lord and Saviour. Dorene’s face is beaming in the crowd.
I have lived far away but carry you all sweetly in my heart. I am with you in thought and prayer. I can testify to God’s grace that can and does see us through. Our journey is still on going and Dorene would certainly be one to cheer us on.

Before I knew Dorene as the mother of my friends, she was my sixth grade teacher, then my Language Arts teacher in Junior High. Through youth group, I realized she wasn't just a great teacher, she was also a pretty great mom. Doreen has always been and will always be remembered as a mentor to me. She made me believe in myself as a writer and a student. As a teacher, she set the bar high and taught me what it means to care about my students and to set the bar high for them. I'm sad to hear of her passing and grateful for her huge impact on my life.

To the Alexander & McLean families,
I am so sorry to hear of Dorene's passing. I know your loss will be great. May the God of all comfort be near you all. Dorene was my friend and we born in Carleton County a few miles and years apart and both married our (late) husband's of Barkers Point as Ken Sr, and Bill too grew up together. Our friendships were for a lifetime and we shall meet again as He promised. May I share with you a Bible verse as Ken and I claimed as our own from the beginning; Roman's 8:28. "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them."
Love,
Maryella Kimball Banks

To Dorene's family- I was so sorry to read that Dorene passed away. She and I taught together at George Street Middle School. From the minute I met her the fun began; we just clicked:) Dorene and I took courses together for our Master's degree . Bill drove us to Saint John every Thursday after school for one course. The laughter in that vehicle was delightful. We had a ball and dear Bill endured it! I know your memories of this wonderful woman will help you through this difficult time.

I am sorry to hear of Dorene's passing and I just wanted to pass along a quick note to let you all know the impact your mom and dad had on me as a kid. When we moved to Fredericton, Bill was my very first Sunday School teacher and Dorene was a leader with CYC. I was not a likeable boy and didn't show much respect to anyone (as you may recall LOL). Your mom and dad both invested time into me that they did not need to do but, clearly, saw something in me worth salvaging. I remember when we were in between youth ministers/pastors and your mom kept our group together. it's weird the things one retains, but I remember an evening of home made ice cream at your house in Nashwaaksis. Anyways, over time ...both your mom and dad won me over and while I still had difficulty giving respect to those that deserved it, I can recall never wanting to disappoint them. Their impact on me through my early and mid teen age years will be forever remembered and I am forever grateful to have had them in my life during a time when it was most needed. Be well, all of you. Thinking of you during this difficult time.
