Obituary of Joanne Elizabeth Connolly

The family of Joanne Elizabeth (Kelly) Connolly announce her passing on Saturday February 24, 2024, at the age of 93, at Governor Hall Fredericton, where she lived.

She was born April 7, 1930 in Saint John to the late S. Roy Kelly Q.C. and Gertrude (Cullinan) Kelly. She was predeceased in 2006 by her husband of 50 years Francis (Frank) Connolly.

Joanne graduated from Saint Vincent’s High School in Saint John and went on to study at and graduate from Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1950, and was an alumni member of that class. She spent her nursing career in hospitals in Saint John, Minto and Fredericton.

Joanne is survived by her 3 children, daughter Anne (John) Hoogendyk of Elgin Ontario, son Andrew (Debbie) Connolly of Fredericton and daughter Jane (Jose) Connolly of Bloomfield New Jersey; grandchildren Mark Hoogendyk, Elizabeth Hoogendyk, Emily Kirouac, Peter Hoogendyk, Rebecca Connolly, Jonathan Connolly and Stephen Connolly, and by 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Colleen Hoyt of Saint John, Susan (Tom) Malone of Moncton and Patty Coughlan of Burlington Ontario, and by several nieces and nephews. Her sister Frances Horgan predeceased her in 2021.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Holy Family Catholic Church on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 11 am with Fr. Bill Brennan as celebrant. Interment will take place in the Hermitage Catholic Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Rotary Club Camp Grand Lake.
