Obituary of Patricia Powell

Patricia Palmer Powell passed away peacefully on March 7, 2024, at Medley Hall, Fredericton, NB.  Patricia was born on June 4, 1935, in London, England, and was a daughter of the late Cyril Palmer and Winnifred (West) Jones.  

Patricia started her time with the love of her life, Graham, towards the end of a school-class hike which he led in the Surrey Hills south-west of London in 1951. After another 2 years at school and 7 years of letter writing while Graham was at university in Scotland and then did his required 2 years in the army in West Germany, they were married in 1960. In that year they moved to Fredericton where Graham took a master’s degree in forestry at UNB and then joined the faculty.  In the early years Patricia worked at the Victoria Public Hospital as a laboratory technician, and when they started their family, she decided to stop work and stay at home. Patricia and Graham were both founding members of the Forest Hill United Church.  Patricia had a strong faith and was an active member in their church.  Together they loved to travel, and they created many wonderful memories.  She would keep up with the latest news by listening to the radio and knew the weather better than anyone.  Patricia loved to play tennis.  

Besides her loving husband Graham, she is survived by her children, Kevin Powell and Andrea (Todd) Downing; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Katie), Ryan (Sonja), Kelsey (Luke) and Sean; great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Brooks; sisters, Wendy (Christopher) Knight, New Zealand and Hazel He, France and many nieces and nephews.  Besides her parents she was predeceased by her sister, Brenda.

The Funeral Service for Patricia will take place at Forest Hill United Church on Thursday March 14, 2024, at 2:00 pm, with Rev. Dr. Kelly Burke as celebrant. For those who wish, donations in Patricia’s memory may be made to Forest Hill United Church.
