It’s the rare engineer who can design and build. Carl was one of them, like Leonardo de Vinci and Alexander Graham Bell. His home should be made into a museum. My wife (former Dean of Engineering at university of Waterloo) and I are amazed at his achievements.

Carl was a pivotal influence in my life. After riding solo on a Triumph 650 by complete accident in Sudbury the summer of 1967 I immediatly switched my interest from English sports cars to motorcycles. When I returned to UNB the next year I heard of this small 'hole in the wall' dealer of BULTACO bikes in Fredericton. I will never forget the day a friend and I travelled to Carl's porch to be introduced to his small stock of bikes on the porch. He grabbed one and bounced it up and down like a madman! "These bikes are super strong, they are almost like masochists!" he stated. I started my research, quit Mechanical Engineering for a year to save money, and the next summer bought "The best small motorcycle in the world", a Bultaco Metralla 250.
The summer of 1969 I took that bike 18000 miles around North America. I was hooked for life and still, ver 50 years later I have 4 motorcycles in my garage. I have visited 27 countries on my motorcycles , and never been without one or more since then.
Thanks Uncle Carl for changing my life! Rest in peace.
Ron in Brisbane, Australia.

Very sorry to read of Carl's passing. While a youngster Carl helped me with model airplane building, when a teenager Carl kept my Bultaco running and inspired me to this day, 50 years later, to get out and enjoy motorcycling. His innovations in aeronautics laid the groundwork for unmanned aerial vehicles in Canada in the early years. A quiet and modest genius with whom I will miss chatting.

I was introduced to Carl in 1992 by the late Glen Boyd. Carl taught me to fly RC and spent many times with Carl at his home and at the flying field. He was an exceptional person and an expert builder and flyer. He will be missed. Sincerely Rick Kirkbride (FMAC)

My condolences to Carl's family and good friends. As a young man attending Albert Street school I would often see, in winter, Carl on one of his Bultaco's with studded tires ripping up Albert Street..... probably coming from the UNB campus. A few years later I would hang out a bit with a friend who purchased a Bultaco from him and Carl was amused that I covered up my Honda gas tank emblems with Bultaco stickers. He was a brilliant engineer.

Hi Carl’s family. Carl and I had many times in his living room getting fuel for the clubs members, during that time we would discuss the Avro Arrow , and the effect of turbulators on an aircraft wing. Great times.
Best Regards Jim Lloyd, Saint John Model Flying Club
