Obituary of Nancy Jean Ross

The passing of Nancy Jean Ross, wife of Dr. Don Feeney, occurred at Hospice House, Fredericton on April 1, 2020 at the age of 71. She was born at Chipman Memorial Hospital in St. Stephen, NB on January 13, 1949, the daughter of the late Bill and Elizabeth (Miller) Ross. Nancy grew up in St. Andrews, NB. She spent many enjoyable hours in her teenage years working with her dad, Bill and her uncle, Kent at their family business "The Cottage Craft". In 1967, she was a member of the first graduating class from the Sir James Dunn Academy and, to celebrate, the class travelled to Expo in Montreal with financial assistance from Lady Dunn. In 1971, Nancy graduated from McGill University and began her career as a physiotherapist in Fredericton at VPH, moving on to DECH in 1976 as Assistant Director of Physiotherapy. Nancy had a career change in the 1980’s, becoming a Financial Advisor, and in 1992 she and Tony Mais opened a Wood Gundy office in Fredericton. She built a very successful business and was appointed as a vice-president of CIBC Wood Gundy. Nancy’s outgoing and often impish personality followed her throughout life. Her leadership and fun loving approach to all challenges will always be remembered by her colleagues, her family and her many friends. She enjoyed life to the fullest, whether it be travelling post retirement to Florida (the minute hockey season was over!) to spend March and April in Siesta Key, entertaining family and friends at the family home in St. Andrews, or hosting a lobster party at the cottage at Chamcook Lake. Throughout her career and in retirement, Nancy was very active in all her communities both professional and civic. In recent years she volunteered for many fund raising projects at the YMCA, and was a past member of the Chalmers Hospital Board of Directors. More importantly, she joyfully participated in all her husband Doc’s hockey endeavors. Besides the love of her life, her husband Donnie, Nancy is survived by step-children Shane (Leonora) Feeney of Toronto, and Leslie (Richard) Williams of Boston; step-grandchildren Hanna and Harry Feeney, and Anislie and Graeme Williams; brother Bob (Diane) Ross of Toronto; nephews Brad (Chris) of Toronto and Ian (Laura) Ross of Moncton, and Rob and Mike (Tamara) Ross of Nanaimo, BC. Nancy was predeceased by her parents, her older brother Bill and his wife Lynne. The family would like to thank the medical community – Dr. Ian MacDonald, Dr. Ann Collins, Dr. H. Bouma, Dr. I. Vasilu and the wonderful staff at Hospice House for the compassionate care given to Nancy. Special thanks to cousin, Peter Ross for his many, many acts of kindness towards Nancy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice House, 621 Churchill Row Fredericton, the YMCA, or a charity of your choosing. The family would like to encourage participation in the Hospice Walk in May. Due to the present pandemic restrictions, a funeral service will be held at a later date.
