Obituary of Susan Lee Scott

Born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, in 1958, Sue was the daughter of Frederick and the late Gertrude (Saunders) Barton. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, David Michael, and their two daughters, Ashlee Elizabeth (Patrick Steeves), and Sara Rachael, her sisters Jill Barton and Nancy Barton, and many nieces and nephews, and Sue’s favorite (and only) grand dog, Mia Wallace. Sue was a graduate of Fredericton High School and worked in the Human Resources Department at NB Power in Fredericton for 32 years prior to her retirement in 2010. She thoroughly enjoyed retirement which gave her time for doing daily word searches, reading, baking, watching daytime TV and Hallmark movies, going on family vacations (Disney World was definitely her favorite) and she eventually warmed up to boating where she especially enjoyed socializing at the dock and "rafting" with friends. Sue loved to dance, though David was a somewhat reluctant dance partner. Other favorite things included Big Macs, dinners out, a good glass of wine, travelling and lunches with friends. Sue made their home in Fredericton a sanctuary and took great pride in it. She loved to cook and entertain. Christmas was her favorite time of year and her Christmas baking was legendary and appreciated by all. David has excelled as a baking and cooking apprentice over the last 3 years, learning Sue’s "tricks of the trade". Sue was proudly devoted to her family - loving, encouraging and supporting them through whatever challenges and successes they were experiencing on a given day. After her cancer diagnosis in 2017, she was extremely grateful to be able to attend the weddings of both of their daughters, and to continue regular vacations and cruises with David. In fact, from the time of her diagnosis, Sue was determined to stay positive and to make the most of whatever time she had left. Despite the ongoing inconveniences of managing the disease through surgery, radiation and chemo, Sue always had something to look forward to and David consistently provided the care and support necessary to allow Sue to focus on that next goal. Sue’s family extends a special thank you to the Oncology Team and Palliative Care Unit at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. The care that Sue and the family experienced throughout the past few years and in particular, the last week, was outstanding and much appreciated. Sincere thanks are extended to her oncologists, Dr. Raza, Dr. Broad and Dr. Swan and to her Palliative Care Doctor, Jill Goodyear, and Palliative Care nurses Greg, Lauren, Cynthia, and Laurinda. Due to COVID restrictions, a private visitation will take place at McAdam’s Funeral Home with a private service to follow at St. James Presbyterian Church.
