Obituary of John Robert Smith

J. Robert Smith passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 31, 2024. Born in Fredericton, NB, in 1936, he was the son of the late Alfred and Clara (Simmons) Smith.

 

In addition to his parents Robert was predeceased by his brothers, James Alfred Smith and O. Leslie Smith (Roberta) as well as sisters, Elva Allen of PEI and Anne McInnis.

 

Robert leaves behind his partner, Randy Randall of Fredericton.

 

Robert attended St. Dunstan’s School, Fredericton High School (1954), and the University of New Brunswick, having been awarded a Lord Beaverbrook Scholarship. He received his BA in English and Latin (1958) and an MA in Classics (1962) before embarking on his teaching career in high schools and at UNB, first in Saint John and then in Fredericton, retiring in 1993.

At Robert’s request a private family interment will be held at a later time. For those who wish, donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
