Obituary of Hany Elhawary
"In memory of Hany Elhawary December 19, 1943 - October 9, 2024
Hany Ahmed Elhawary, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend died on October 9, 2024 at Hospice Fredericton. Remembered always by his wife, Samia (née Refaat), daughter Nellie (Geoff Chapman) and son Kareem (Dana Hodgins) along with many family members in Canada and Egypt.
Hany was born in Egypt and immigrated to Canada in 1973 after completing his education at Ain Shams University in Cairo. He was one of a handful of individuals trained in computer software, at the onset of the use of computers in the 1970s. He was a civil servant and worked for the Government of New Brunswick for most of his career. For many years, every Sunday, his group of friends would meet for coffee and have long, spirited discussions and exchange ideas about many topics. He was dedicated to his work as well as his family and had a fascination with aircraft, volunteering for CASARA (Civil Air Search and Rescue Association) in Fredericton for a number of years. In retirement, he enjoyed road trips around Canada and spending time at Mactaquac Provincial Park, by the lake, with his wife.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Fredericton would be very much appreciated or to the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (University Health Network). We have an immense amount of gratitude for the outstanding care Hany received by the devoted palliative physicians and nurses at Hospice Fredericton, they will always be in our hearts.
Ascend and rest in peace. Your memory will live on in the hearts and memories of all those who love you."
