Obituary of Edmond Antonius Davis

It is with sadness that the family of Edmond Antonius Davis announce his passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on November 13th, 2024 surrounded by family.

Edmond was born in the village of Niha, Lebanon, on September 11th, 1935. He is predeceased by his parents, Antonius and Asma Daibes, and his siblings, George, Eblen (Father Charbel), Chaiban, Werden, and Suzanne; his newborn daughter, Theresa; and newborn granddaughter, Georgia.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Georgette; his children, Louis (Ouna), Peter (Stacey), David (Donna), and Robbie (Chelsea) Davis, and Doreen (Raymond) Chalet; his step-daughter, Antoinette Issa; his grandchildren, Elias (Katrina), Danny, and Alex Chalet, and Carol, Joseph, Michael, Nicholas, Taylor, Maya, Avery, Gilbert, Selena, Rennee, and Edmond Davis; his great grandchild, Simon Land-Davis; his sister, Tamen David; and many nieces and nephews.

Known as Ed by his community, he paved the way for many of the Fredericton Lebanese community and aided them in their transition to Canadian life. Community was of utmost importance to Ed and he always did what he could to help strengthen it. Guided by his uncle Joe Khalil, his own journey to Canada began in 1964 and began working alongside Joe on a farm. He later worked at the Hartt Shoe Factory in Fredericton. In 1976, he decided to open the first of many Ed’s Fish & Chips restaurants. Entrepreneurship was a passion for Ed, and with his family, he built many successful businesses.

Beyond his business portfolio, Ed was best known for his love of family, farming and gardening. He had a green thumb like no other, cultivating fruitful gardens that would feed his community during his wife’s countless Sunday dinners. Ed was always proud of his ability to provide his family with fruits and vegetables from his garden. He was particularly fond of his apple trees and had a knack for transforming his land into scenic spaces filled with abundant fruit trees of many kinds, both in Maugerville and Niha. Ed was of deep faith, and a devoted member of St. Charbel’s Maronite Catholic Parish.

The family sincerely thank the staff of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital for the attention and care given to Edmond, as well as the staff of McAdam’s Funeral Home for their kindness during this difficult time.

Visitation will take place at McAdam’s Funeral Home from 5pm to 8pm on Saturday, November 16th, 2024.
