Obituary of Julia Elisabeth Stewart
The family of Julia Elisabeth Stewart would like to announce her passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, New Brunswick, on Saturday, November 16, 2024 surrounded by family. She was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on July 5, 1971. (For those that know Julia, she usually celebrated through the whole month of July. )
Julia is survived by her partner, Tony Astles and his daughters, Madison (Jack Seguin), Handen and Danielle; mother, Catharine Jane Stewart; and brothers, Kennedy Stewart (Jeanette Ashe) and Evan Stewart.
Julia was predeceased by her father, Edward Keith Stewart.
Julia has a BA in English from Acadia University and an MA in Library Science from Dalhousie University.
Julia was the director of the Fredericton Public Library.
Julia was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2004 while attending university. Since then, she has been involved with numerous MS Canada initiatives. She was very proud to be a board member of MS Canada (Atlantic). Julia is also Vice Chair of the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation’s (MSIF), People with and affected by MS Expert Group.
She was also a volunteer of Adopt a Grandparent.
Julia left a lasting impact on all she met, and will be truly missed by her family, friends, and the community.
The family wish to thank the staff, nurses and doctors in the Emergency Room and the Intensive Care Unit at the DECH for their kindness, caring, and compassion during this difficult time. It was greatly appreciated.
The family will receive guests at McAdam’s Funeral Home for a visitation on Saturday, December 7, 2024 between 4:00 and 6:00 pm. A celebration of life will be held at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre at 732 Charlotte Street, Fredericton, NB, immediately following the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the MS Canada and/or the Fredericton Public Library.
