Obituary of Bettie June Young
Bettie Young passed away November 25th, 2024, at the Southwood Hospice in Calgary after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her son Adam Young, who lovingly cared for his mother while she was ill. Bettie is also survived by her sister Donna Young, her sister-in-law Gloria Guitard, and her nephew Graeme Beyeler. Bettie was predeceased by her parents Norman and Jean Young (nee Ferris), her sister Nancy Beyeler, and her brother John Young.
Bettie grew up in the city of Fredericton, where she attended Connaught Primary School, Albert Street School, and Fredericton High School. As a young woman she moved out west in the late seventies and fell in love with Calgary. Bettie worked in various fields before graduating with a diploma in medical records and she worked in that sector until retirement.
Bettie and Adam often returned to New Brunswick on summer holidays, where they gathered with other family members at the cottage on Grand Lake. Bettie loved to hike and go camping. She, Adam, and her good friends Donna McLean and Cindy Murphy loved to go on nature adventures throughout Alberta.
Bettie took a keen interest in the Fine Arts and often had a creative project underway. She loved to listen to music and dance. Bettie was keenly independent and had a mischievous sense of humor. Bettie’s family and friends will miss her ready smile and free spirit.
Bettie’s ashes will be interred in the family plot in Fredericton, New Brunswick at a later date.
Bettie’s family is thankful for the love and care provided by the staff at the Southwood Hospice. We are also grateful for the kindness and friendship of Annette Bos, Donna McLean, and Cindy Murphy.
