Obituary of Betty Doris MacDougall
It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Doris MacDougall announces her passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the age of 94. Born in Saint John, NB, on December 24, 1929, she was the wife of the late Francis MacDougall.
She leaves behind her children, Shawn MacDougall (Ginny) of Calgary, AB, and Kelley Hall (Geoffrey) of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Victoria Hachey (Paul Johnston) and Corey and Jill MacDougall; great grandchildren, Michael and Cameron Hachey and Mila and Reese MacDougall; brother, Arthur Donaldson (Vera); and sister, Vicki Lynn Hughes.
In addition to our father, Mom was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Victoria (Wetmore) Donaldson; brothers; William Donaldson, Grant Donaldson, Victor Beers and sisters, Shirley Bosfet and Joan Gray.
Prior to moving to Fredericton in 2020 to be closer to her family, Mom lived in Saint John most of her life. Betty worked at many jobs including Eastern Bakeries, the Telegraph Journal and as a Teachers Aid in the Saint John school district, with disabled children. This was a calling that provided her with an opportunity to share her kindness and love of children.
She was a wife, mother, nana, great nana, sister, aunt and a friend to many. Mom dedicated her life to nurturing, supporting and ensuring a happy environment. Together, Mom and Dad immersed themselves in building a life and raising their family. Her passion was her family and the love was always unconditional. The love and affection she displayed at home often spread out to others and was shared by many.
Mom loved singing, performing, playing cards, bowling, swimming and dancing. She believed in giving back to others through volunteering. She spent many years in the Royal Canadian Legion, committing to making a difference in the lives of Veterans and their families. Mom previously held the position of President of the Ladies Auxiliary Branch #14, working her way up to President of the New Brunswick Command for a period of time. She was very active in her church, and devoted her time fundraising for the Christmas Hampers and local food banks.
Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Friday, December 27, from 5:00p.m. – 7:00p.m. The funeral service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral, Fredericton (150 Church Street), on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 2:00p.m. The Very Reverend Geoffrey Hall will officiate.
