Obituary of Ralph "Sandy" Alexander Metzler
With great sadness, his family announces the passing of Ralph Alexander "Sandy" Metzler (70), of Nasonworth, NB, on Wednesday, January 1st, 2025 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Sandy was born on June 15th, 1954 to Ralph Metzler and Janet Metzler (nee Macintosh) in Zweibrücken, Germany. The son of an RCAF fighter pilot, Sandy spent his early years travelling with his family to different military posting destinations in Germany, the Pacific Northwest, the Prairies and Atlantic Canada. He graduated from James M. Hill High School in Chatham, NB, began university studies at the University of New Brunswick, and enjoyed a year of university on exchange in Nice, France.
Returning to Fredericton, he met his future partner, Linda Coleman, in 1982 when they both worked as staff members at the Chestnut Club. Married in 1987, they enjoyed over 37 happy years together.
Sandy made many friends and acquaintances through his long career as an Insurance Broker with J.M. & C.W. Hope Grant Ltd., retiring from there in 2018. He was an avid sports fan – especially of the Toronto Raptors and the Toronto Blue Jays.
Sandy is survived by his wife, Linda; his mother, Janet; his sister, Susan Abbott (Larry); his brother, James Metzler (Victoria) and their children; brother-in-law, David (Betsy); seven nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Hunter. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph, and his sister, Debbie (Merle).
The family would like to thank their family physician, Dr. Kathleen Woods, as well as staff at the D. Everett Chalmers Hospital.
There will be no visitation, and the family will be conducting a small private funeral service of its own.
