Obituary of Ethel Dorothy Lenton (Donnelly)

It is with great sadness that the family of Ethel Dorothy (Donnelly) Lenton, wife of the late Leslie Lenton, announce that she passed away peacefully at the Oromocto Public Hospital, on Monday, March 8, 2021. Born on September 17, 1928, near Duff Saskatchewan, Ethel was the daughter of the late Thomas and Violet (Ward) Donnelly. Ethel was predeceased by her daughter Darlene (Hugh) Hunter, son Gerald Lenton, and granddaughter Carlie (Steve) Currie, sisters Alma (John) Rudrum, Norma (Robert) Robson, Eunice (Siegfried) Schweitzer, Shirley (Bert) Rogne, Joyce (James) Ryan, and brothers Irvine (Clara) Donnelly, and Sheldon Donnelly. Ethel is survived by her grandson Collin (Jennifer) Hunter, great-grandchildren including Taylor (Hess) Hunter, Emma Hunter, Sophie Hunter, MacKenzie Currie, and Joshua Currie, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ethel grew up on the family farm with a huge family and dreams of becoming a hairdresser. Instead, she married, had two kids, built a house in Melville, Saskatchewan, and worked at different jobs including a bakery, post office, and hardware store. Leslie joined the Army, and she led a military life for the next twenty years living on various military bases including Borden, London, and Petawawa, Ontario, and overseas in Soest, Germany. After Leslie retired from the military, they moved to Morven, Ontario, where he was employed as a cook at the Mill Haven Penitentiary. In the late 70s, following the passing of her husband, she moved to New Brunswick to help Darlene and her family. In the early 2000s, she moved back to the family homestead in Melville, and then in 2009 after suffering a stroke, she moved back to New Brunswick. Ethel enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, cleaning, and making dessert. The family would like to thank the staff of the Oromocto Public Hospital and the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, New Brunswick, for their patience and care of Ethel in her final days. Upon Ethel’s request there will be a gravesite burial service and Celebration of Life in Duff, Saskatchewan, at a later date once COVID passes and travel is safe.
