Obituary of Ferdinando Antonio Valentino

VALENTINO, FERDINANDO ANTONIO The family is sad to announce the passing of Ferdinando Antonio Valentino on Saturday April 3, 2021 at the Pine Grove Nursing Home. Born on December 10, 1928 in North Minto, NB, he was the son of the late Giovanni and Domenica (Cherubini) Valentino. In 1929 Ferdinand’s mother took the 4 children to Italy during the war. His father stayed in Minto to coal mine. They returned to Canada in 1933. Ferdinand was a marvellous hockey and baseball player. He attended St. F.X. University before continuing on to Dalhousie University to graduate in 1953 with his pharmacy diploma. He went on to open a pharmacy in Minto and later another in Chipman. He was married to Jean Marie in 1961 and they raised 3 children. In 1988 he received the A.H. Robins, Bowl of Hygeia Award for community service. After retiring, he lived in Barbados and later Florida for 6 months of the year where he loved to golf. During summers in Canada, he was in high demand to work at pharmacies around the province. He even worked a shift here and there at his nephew Joe’s pharmacy until he was into his early 80’s. Ferdinand was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a wonderful father and provider to his family and will be greatly missed by daughter Lisa Vigneault (Paul) and granddaughter Nicole Vigneault. In addition to his parents, Ferdinand was predeceased by his wife Jean Marie (Carney); sons Gino and Giuliano Valentino; brothers Achilles and Henry Valentino and his sister Nora Valentino. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the caregivers at the Pine Grove Nursing Home for their exceptional care and compassion. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Dunstan’s church on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at 11am, to celebrate his life and that of his sister Nora Valentino, who passed away in Ottawa, ON, on November 7, 2020.
