Obituary of Sherif H. Fahmy

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Sherif H. Fahmy announce his peaceful passing at Neill Hall Shannex, following a ten year struggle with Parkinsons and a recent hospitalization. Born in 1943 in Alexandria Egypt, he received his early education in Alexandria and Manchester England. He immigrated to Canada in 1975 settling in Fredericton with his wife and young family. After completing his Master’s degree in Science at UNB in 1982, he worked for the Department of Agriculture Agrifood Canada until his retirement in 2011. Sherif was a very proud Canadian, an avid gardener and a talented expressive watercolorist. He was a founding member of the Fredericton Multicultural Association where he also served as president. Sherif also served as president of the Fredericton Islamic Association. He is survived by his wife Lorna Flewelling, his daughter Aisha Fahmy (Stefan Bohnsack), his granddaughter Lexie Olivia, his stepchildren Azza, Ali, and Bakr and their families, his sister Perihan and four nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife Khadiga in 1991 and his sister Ragia in 2021. Arrangements have been entrusted to McAdam's Funeral Home. Due to Covid restrictions, a celebration to honour Sherif’s life will take place at a later date. The family would like to thank Dr. Francis McDougall for her many years as Sherif’s general practitioner, Dr. Scott Robertson and the nurses, licensed practical nurses and support staff of Neill Hall Shannex for their compassionate and loving care. The family would also like to thank close friends Sayed Ismail, Lynn Twigger, Samire Ismaili and the Ismaili family, for their ongoing support.
