Obituary of Margaret DeMerchant

It is with overwhelming sadness that the family of Margaret T B DeMerchant announces her passing on May 23, 2021 at her home with her daughter and granddaughter by her side. Born on July 10, 1961 in Metz, France, and living in other places such as Quebec and PEI as a child may have sparked her love for travel. She always had luggage at the ready and never said no to taking a trip. Her favorite places were Mexico and Greece, although she was happy at any location if her family and friends were accompanying her. It always amazed us how she would gain the strength to shop the outlets and flea markets at various destinations. She could out shop anyone. Maggie, as many knew her, loved to plant flowers in her flower beds, bake and sew. She knit many baby sweaters and blankets for her beloved grandchildren; she was even known to swing a hammer. Mom loved animals and this was a trait she passed on to her children and grandchildren. Her absence will be felt immensely by her little dog Charlotte, her cat Kai and her parakeet Piper. Her quick wit and sense of humour knew no bounds, she would be the first one to get a group laughing. Her beautiful smile will truly be missed. Maggie worked at Legal Aid NB and the Public Trustees office until her diagnosis of Ovarian Cancer in 2012. She was the epitome of strength and bravery every step of the way throughout her 9-year battle, never letting the disease control her and being an inspiration to many. Maggie will be forever missed by her parents Tracy Eaton (Robert) and Perley DeMerchant (Susan); her daughters Amanda Schriver (Adrian), Rebecca Cranney (Jeff) and Sara Morehouse (Chris); her precious grandchildren Maggie and Belle Schriver, Samuel Cranney and Allison Morehouse; her sisters Rhonda Guidry (Kevin) and Michelle Boyd (Jim); her brothers Brent DeMerchant (Linda Riddell) and Russell DeMerchant (Sharon); uncle Joe Sullivan (Anne Marie). Maggie leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her brother Barry DeMerchant and stepbrother Robert DeMerchant. Pallbearers are Adrian Schriver, Chris Morehouse, Manoli Daskalakis, Kevin Guidry, Katie Deponte and Hunter Tompkins. Honorary Pallbearers are Brent DeMerchant, Russell DeMerchant and Jeff Cranney. The family would like to express their gratitude to every oncology nurse that came in contact with mom, you were wonderful. A special thank you to Dr. Saleem Raza, Dr. Karen Broad and Dr. Gordon McDonald for providing exceptional care and enabling us to be able to keep mom at home. Also, a huge thanks to the Wal Mart Pharmacy staff on Regent Street. They went above and beyond for us. A visitation will take place at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place in the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Thursday, May 27 at 2:00 pm, by reservation due to limited seating. For those who wish to attend the service, please call McAdam’s Funeral Home at (506)458-9170, to reserve a seat. A live stream of the service will be available at the following link: https://vimeo.com/554384602 . Interment will follow at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery. Mom’s wishes would be to have people donate to the Fredericton SPCA in her honor.
