I am so saddened to hear of Calvin's passing. You may not remember me but at the Daily Gleaner, Calvin was my boss, my mentor, my friend, my lunch date (loll). I am regretful we have lost touch, that is on me, life gets busy, but no excuse. A great man who shaped my future, as one of my mentors I watched and learned from him before he even new it. Many stories and thoughts cross my mind as I write this. I wish you strength at this time. His passing seems so premature but in time you will realize he passed on to you all the wisdom and strength to carry on.

You will be surrounded by family right now, but when they are all gone and you are alone, feel free to call and come over for coffee and a chat. My sincere condolences. I went to school with Calvin in the sixties here in Chatham. Remember him well. We hung out for awhile and had mutual friends. I remember him getting me to print his father's name on a certificate his father had received from his work I believe. He told his Dad I was a real good printer. We were in grade 4. Again so sorry.

It was sad news when I read about Calvin passing. I have all fond memories from graduating from UNB with Calvin in 1977, coaching the same years with Fredericton South Minor Baseball and with the Province of New Brunswick when Calvin was with Treasury Board. He was a smart guy and always had time for a funny story. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. Kind thoughts and condolences to the entire family.

My sincere condolences to Calvin's family. When my sister passed away unexpectedly in 2010 Calvin was one of the people from CMA NB who was instrumental in setting up a memorial prize in her name at subsequent CMA graduations. Subsequently, whenever I would run into Calvin on the sidewalks of downtown he would always ask about how her husband and kids were doing, share a few stories from when they had worked together and we would have a few laughs and he always spoke fondly of his family. I certainly appreciated his support and kindness, a great person indeed who will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Take care, John

Peggy, we were sad to hear of the recent passage of Calvin and wish to provide our deepest condolences to you and the rest of the family. Although we only occasionally saw you both over the past few years, most often at the market, we always remember how upbeat, positive and interesting it was to have a "gab" and hear the news in terms of travels, children and grandchildren. I worked with Calvin during his time with the Provincial Government. Calvin was always a pleasure to work with, demonstrating a keen ability to understand the issues; suggesting creative approaches; and providing guidance and assistance to many departments. He was also a lot of fun! He always had a story to tell and was liked by all. He will be missed by all his friends. Fran and Terry Christie

i was so shocked to read about Calvin in the newspaper. It wasnt long ago that i was talking to him about hockey starting up in the fall and be interesting to see who we had left after co vid. Our other conversation was about the grandchildren in Ohio, he said they skyped but was excited that the boarder was going to open up and then would be heading to Ohio, When he talked about his family his face lit up. I am so sorry that he couldnt make that last trip. I certainly will miss him at the Unb Hockey games and our talks at Ross Drug, My heart breaks for you Peggy! R.I.P Calvin.

Dear Peggy, Anna and Jamie: Calvin is part of my happiest memories of working at the Gleaner. You couldn't ask for a fairer, kinder publisher, nor one who cared more about the paper and its people. You've expressed a hope that people will honour Calvin by sharing stories, maybe even funny ones that involve him. I'll share just one. In 1997, Valentine's Day fell on a Friday, always a busy day for reporters and editors. As the afternoon wore on, a collective realization descended on the entire newsroom: not one of us had remembered the significance of the date. No dinner reservations had been made, no flowers ordered, no mushy cards bought. We were all up the creek. Calvin emerged from his office, ready to head home for the weekend, and asked why we looked so glum. He listened to our tales of woe and shook his head, looking like a disappointed dad whose kids had let him down again. We were all amateurs -- he and Peggy would be sharing a romantic Italian dinner that would would fit the spirit of the day perfectly, Calvin told us, adding to our gloom. Yes, indeed. The pizza would be ready for pickup in 10 minutes, which would give him just enough time to pick up a bottle of Chianti. In true Calvin style, he had kept a straight face throughout all this, and we fell for it. Calvin, you will always be remembered with affection and respect.

I was very saddened to hear of Calvin's sudden passing. Calvin was a true friend and mentor during our time working together at the Province of NB. We spent many a noon hour walk "solving?" big and small problems. We fixed the Sox's but never could fix the Leafs!! Our condolences to you Peggy and all of Calvin's family on your tremendous loss. I was so sorry to read about Calvin in the paper. I wasn't surprised to see his picture but I didn't expect to read what was written there. I know he was well thought of, I know, Peggy, that he was your 'best friend', and I know he was a great dad. I'll never forget the night you said at the church we were both attending, that you were each, each other's best friend. I wished so much at the time that I could say that as well. You guys were great! My prayer is that you will be able to rest in the love that God has for you and get so much affirmation from so many friends. I send you lots of love!
