Obituary of James Colbert Flynn

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James (Jim) Colbert Flynn of Fredericton, NB, which occurred on Sunday, August 15, 2021, at the Dr Everett Chalmers Hospital (DECH) in Fredericton. Jim was born on March 23, 1935, in Stanley, NB. He was the eldest in the family of eight children born to the late Alice Loretta Josephine Forman and Guy Reid Flynn of Stanley. Jim leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Charlotte Faye (Kidney) Flynn. Grieving are his children, Mark Flynn (Cami Watson) of Napadogan, NB, Heather Flynn of Porters Lake, NS, Stephen Flynn of Fort MacMurray, AB, Gayle Crabbe (Ron Beatty) of Maugerville, NB. Jim also has eight grandchildren, Colin Flynn (Sally), Michael Flynn, Mark Flynn II (Jennifer), Jessica Flynn, Anise McKay, Elyia McKay, Simeon McKay and Todd MacPherson (Robyn). Grampy Jim was also proud of his great grandchildren, Marley, Addy, Kesh and the first "Flynn Twins", Archer and Carver. Jim is also survived by two brothers and three sisters, Patrick Flynn of Cross Creek, NB, Carney Flynn (Dorothy) of Vancouver, BC, Naomi Grew of Ottawa, ON, Constance Mosher (Gary) of Saint John, NB, and Deborah Hurley (Danny) of Sherwood Park, AB. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his son Michael James Flynn; granddaughter Ashley Marie Flynn; brother and sister-in-law Jack and Jeanne Flynn; sister Ellen-Anne Flynn; nephew Johnny Flynn; sister-in-law Sharon Flynn; and brother-in-law Alex Picard. Jim talked proudly of his Diamond Construction Co. Ltd. days which began when he completed grade 9 at Stanley Regional High School. He worked hard and he played hard. In his younger years, he was known for good looks, charm and kicking up the walls at the Stanley Fair. He always teased that he got his dancing talent from his mother, Alice, who would do the Highland Fling and Charleston at home. He enjoyed singing his limericks and tunes too; it was his sisters in the Flynn family, Deborah, Ellen-Anne and Constance, who sang sweetly. Jim was a dedicated and hard-working Owner/Operator of Snap-on Tools Canada in Fredericton and the surrounding area for 20 years. Many accolades and awards sent Charlotte and him travelling to sunny destinations through their prime years. Thrilled to retire to the "Flynn Inn" at 54 years young, he spent his best years on the Grand John. He was a country boy at heart who enjoyed hunting, fishing and four wheeling with his buddies at the neighbouring camps. He passed this passion on to his sons, Mark and Stephen; you knew you were one of the Flynn Boys when you were invited to the camp with him. Jim lived life on his own terms. He was a man of firm beliefs who honoured his role as the eldest Flynn sibling, held steadfast in his support of the Roman Catholic Church and was a staunch Liberal Party Supporter. "It Doesn’t Matter How You Vote, As Long as You Vote Liberal!" Special thanks to the paramedics of Ambulance New Brunswick and the DECH Emergency Room Staff. Visitation will take place at McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York St, Fredericton, on Friday, August 27, 2021, from 12 – 1pm; followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00 pm in the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel with Father Monte Peters officiating. A recording of Jim's service is available at the following link: https://vimeo.com/593555094 A private family interment will take place in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Devon. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
