Obituary of Lynne Naugler

It is with profound sadness that the family of Lynne Naugler (nee McDowell) of Fredericton, NB announce her death on August 21, 2021 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Lynne is survived by her husband Ron and children Diane (Kate), Paul (Aman) and Jennifer (Jody), grandchildren Connor, Tara, Megan, Aasah and Bobbie, brother Rod, brother in-law Carroll and sister in-law Heather (Andrew), cousins and many friends. Born in Sydney Mines, Cape Breton, to William and Katherine McDowell, Lynne’s childhood was enriched by many cousins across her closely connected family. At the age of seventeen, she chose a career in nursing. She graduated from Sydney City Hospital. After graduation Lynne worked at Harbourview Hospital and later moved to Halifax to take up a position as a registered nurse at the Victoria General Hospital. Lynne spoke often of how much she enjoyed her work in those years and of the wonderful life-long friends she made. It was in Halifax, at a dance at the Jubilee Boat Club, that she met Ronald Naugler a future Chartered Accountant from Liverpool, NS. Lynne and Ron shared 58 years of a loving marriage that saw them build home and community in both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Their shared joy was their family. Lynne especially cherished the opportunity to stay home and raise their children through their school years. Though family was always first, the couple travelled extensively throughout Canada and the United States, the Caribbean and Europe. One memorable trip was when they chartered a 50 foot sailboat and embarked sailing trip on the Aegean Sea. They and their great friends reminisce about the adventure to this day. Ron and Lynne attended many professional sporting events including The Masters in Augusta, Georgia. Lynne was a former member of the Capital Winter Club (curling) of Fredericton and a golfer. Lynne was also a dedicated professional who found great fulfillment in her return nursing with the residents of the DVA. She was especially proud of this work and of the dignity, compassion and empathy needed to do the work well. The poignant and often humourous stories of her time with those patients will live on in our family for many years to come. Faith was a cornerstone of Lynne’s life. She was a life member of the United Church Women (UCW) including a term as President of the St. Paul’s UCW group. A passionate volunteer, Lynne also gave countless hours to the initiatives and events the church including its board, worship committee, choir and pantry. A life long art lover, Lynne also volunteered for many years as a docent at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery and particularly loved leading tours with local school children whose spontaneous commentary on the exhibits delighted her. A gifted conversationalist and story-teller, Lynne was often the quickest wit in the room and always the heart of our family. She is deeply missed. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Home on Monday, August 23, from 5:00-7:00 pm. A memorial service will be held from the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 11:00 am with Rev. Bob Jones officiating.
