Obituary of Colin Rayworth

Colin Rayworth of Fredericton, New Brunswick, passed away on September 9, 2021 at the age of 87. Born on February 6, 1934 in Bridgetown, Barbados, he was the son of the late Colin W. and Elizabeth (Skinner) Rayworth. Colin is survived by his loving wife Diana (nee Geldart); three sons John Rayworth, Bangkok, Thailand, David Rayworth (Brenda Lambke), Ottawa, Ontario, and Glendon Rayworth, Toronto, Ontario; daughter Barbara Schofield (Louis), Baie-Ste.-Anne, NB; four grandchildren Colin and Lauren Rayworth, and Katherine and Anna Schofield, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Colin was predeceased by his sister Ann Hebb, Lunenburg, NS. Colin attended Rothesay Collegiate School and Saint John High School, and graduated in Forestry at UNB Fredericton in 1957. He began his forestry career with Nashwaak Pulp & Paper Co., and then moved to Fredericton where he was employed by the NB Department of Natural Resources and later the Canadian Forestry Service. Having grown up in East Riverside/Rothesay, Colin always had a fascination and interest in Long Island, Kennebecasis River. In retirement, he enjoyed delving into Long Island’s history and settlement. Wishing to leave a legacy of the island he loved exploring with his family, he transferred significant land holdings to the Nature Trust of New Brunswick to ensure that local residents and future generations will also have the opportunity to enjoy the island. Colin had a deep appreciation of nature, particularly New Brunswick’s forests and rivers, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and hiking. He was an avid golfer as a member of Carman Creek Golf Club, and also past member of the Fredericton Curling Club. He belonged to the Guild of St. Joseph, Christ Church Cathedral. He was also a long time supporter of 1st St. Margaret’s Scout Group, looking after the group’s Christmas tree lot for many years. The family would like to extend its sincere thanks to caregivers from the Doctor Everett Chalmers Hospital, the New Brunswick (Horizon) Extra-Mural Program, and Hospice Fredericton. A Funeral Service for Colin will be held at the Christ Church Cathedral on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at 2:00 pm, with an interment at Forest Hill Cemetery immediately following.
