Obituary of Maj. H. T. Monnon

The family is sad to announce the passing of Henry Terence Monnon on Saturday, December 11, 2021, in Fredericton, NB. Born on July 10, 1941 in Halifax, NS, he was the son of Henry Monnon from Inverness, NS, and Margaret (nee Morriscey) Monnon from Halifax, NS. Being the son of a WWII pilot, Terry lived on various Air Force bases in Canada during his young years. He left university in search of, to him, a better life and joined the military. He had a long and successful career serving for 37 years in the Armoured Corps as a member of the Eight Canadian Hussars. Terry served on various bases within Canada and had a tour in Germany. He also did tours in Cyprus, Viet Nam and at the UN Headquarters in New York City. One of his highlights was commanding a squadron of troops in an arctic expedition. Upon retirement, Terry and Camille travelled frequently in their motor home, often with one or all grandchildren, visiting all Canadian provinces and territories except for Nunavut. They also travelled widely throughout the world. Terry will be missed by his wife of 57 years, Camille (nee Leger); one son, Christopher (Fanny Renault) Monnon, Biarritz, France; one daughter, Michele (Edward) McCashion, Edmonton, AB; four much loved grandchildren, Sarah (Nick Dawson) Monnon, Edmonton, AB, Sean (Maythanya Khaikaew) McCashion, Edmonton, AB, Ryan (Melanie Roach) McCashion, Fredericton, NB, and Evan McCashion, Edmonton, AB; one sister, Heather (Andre) Allen, Ashland, Oregon; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of the Veterans Health Unit for the excellent care Terry received during his final days. Services for Terry will be held in Shediac, NB, at a later time. For those who wish, donations in his memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
