John Gillespie Magee's poem "High Flight" captures how I remember Don, a great friend. Peter Edwards Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds,-and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of-wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlight silence. Hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air...

"Doc" was always a regular at our Havelock Flying Club fly-in breakfast every Sunday and always a welcome sight. He was a true gentleman, congenial, considerate and a joy to be with. He was an accomplished and dedicated aviator. We had corresponded often during the last 2 years during which flying activities were much reduced and he was looking forward to a ride in my airplane under construction . I'll do a special flight for you Doc.

We met Don at the Y. Always a smile and a chat. I/we thought of him as our role model for aging gracefully. He could always impress me/us. Since we haven%uFFFDt been there in two years, he and I would exchange the odd email. He was so proud of his family and how he loved those grandchildren. He was so proud of them. Our sincerest condolences. I know I/we will certainly miss him when we return to the Y.

Mrs.Macaulay Please accept my deepest condolences at the loss of Dr. Macaulay. In 1984, until 1987, it was my honor to be the Echocardiographer at DECH , who had just completed my Diagnostic Ultrasound Registration from the School in Winnipeg Health Sciences. Dr. Macaulay came to the Radiology Dept. to review and report my days exams. His natural teaching was always so enlightening ; because he taught me the clinical side of cardiac investigation and made my work so much more satisfying. I was sorry to move on to work in Sussex in 1987. Doing Echocardiography in Association with a different Group was disappointing. I will always remember a kind, patient man, in Dr. Macaulay who treated me with respect, good humor, and in so doing, he elevated my abilities to do the best work for his patients. I know your Sons and their Families will miss him; but, I hope the pride they must have- knowing that he gave his life to Fredericton and area-will be a comfort to you- and to them as well. With kind regards, Annie MacKinnon

I first met Don when I was young. He was one of my fathers partners in the Internal Medicine/Cardiology department. Every week or so he would come to our door and give or receive "the pager" that they used if they were on call. When I told my father I was interested in the banjo - I was immediately taken over to Don's home and he patiently showed me the basics of banjo playing. I still have the same banjo today. Our other mutual shared love was that of flying. We were in the same flight school class and when I was visiting Fredericton - he often took me up for a spin in his plane. One year in my late 20's I failed my bi-annual flight and medical - as there was something weird showed up in my heart cardiogram. I made an appointment with Don - he ran another cardiogram - looked at it - told me to go home and eat 6 bananas and come back in three hours to run another cardiogrtam - I did just that - the cardiuigram was normal-and I got my license back. Go figure. Don lived a great life and and my thoughts go out to all the Maccaulay family.

Barb and family, Please accept my most sincere condolences for your loss. My cousin, the late Roland Ware spoke often of your husband and their friendship. He also sent me some photos Don had taken when he was still flying. They were of Jewetts Mills, and those photos thrilled Roland as he had spent much of his early years there. I too was happy to have them, having been away from NB for so long. I am sorry for your loss. Jeremy-John

Dear David, Alec, Bruce and Mrs. MacAulay, May and I and my sisters are very sorry to hear this sad news and offer you heartfelt condolences. Like many of his friends colleagues and patients who have signed the guestbook we especially remember your Dad's ever present smile, his laugh and love of life expressed in the times we enjoyed at your cottage at white's cove ( I never managed to get up on the skis and swallowed a lot of water, but your Dad was very good about it!) and the times when he would wave from the air while flying overhead (we still cherish the aerial photos of Sylvia and Cam's wedding in the Seheult's back yard). His was a life well lived. With deepest sympathies to you and all your loved ones.

We have many fond memories of Don during his visits to Winnipeg over the years, when both Don and Barb came to visit Alec Anne and their grandchildren. While his zest for life, especially anything to do with flying and medicine come to mind, his love of family and his grandchildren, and keen interest others, is what we will remember most. We've enjoyed some truly lovely times together over the years. We feel honoured to have known Don. A truly special soul. May he Rest In Peace.

I met Don in the fall of 1970 at which time I did 2 mths of my medical internship at the old VPH,the best 2 mths of the whole 12 mth program. Don taught me (and countless others) ECG interpretation. To this day,if encountering an ecg requiring some extra thought,I may ask myself "wonder what Don would think?" I(as were my parents!)so honoured being accepted by Don and the internal med dept.as a colleauge upon my return to Fredericton years ago.I had "big shoes to fill" Don will be fondly remembered as a teacher and colleauge

Don was my preceptor when I did a cardiology elective as an intern in 1985. We met in the ECG lab every morning, where he read all the cardiograms from the previous day. I had great respect for his knowledge base and relaxed manner with patients, and I referred many patients to him over the years. He was full of energy and led an active life. God bless him.
