Obituary of Ramona Adams Francis

The family of Ramona Adams Francis regretfully announces her passing on February 18, 2022 at the age of 93. Ramona Adams was born in 1928 in Bridgewater, NS, where her father, a locomotive engineer with the CNR, had been posted. Her large family returned to Campbellton, and later Tide Head, NB, during the Depression. In 1943, her father was killed in a head-on train collision. Following high school, Ramona completed her teacher training in Fredericton, and taught in Fredericton Junction, Moncton, Baie Comeau, QC and Fredericton. Ramona was an energetic and capable woman who enjoyed team sports, curling, golf, skiing, and was an accomplished seamstress, costume designer, hostess, and home decorator. She was a member of the Faculty Women’s Club, a volunteer with the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra and the Fredericton Music Festival, and a board member of the York Sunbury Historical Society. In her later years, Ramona researched the genealogy of her Scottish (Adams) and Irish (Fitzgerald) ancestors, and presented her results in a book on each. She also created an extensive and detailed map of her genealogy. To the end, Ramona retained her sense of style, her spirit and her sense of humour, revealing to her hospice nurses turning her that "the first hundred years are the worst". Ramona leaves her three children, Jane Francis (George Harrison), Hudson QC, Adam Francis (Pauline, nee Losier), Whistler, BC, Jennifer Francis (Kimball Sykes), Ottawa, ON, and grandchildren Amy and Dax Francis, as well as many dear relatives and friends. At Ramona’s request, no funeral will be held. Burial will take place at the Campbellton Rural Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Hospice Fredericton.
